some help with sdcc blaster

Postby slugfest200x » Wed Apr 13, 2011 8:25 pm

i was thinking about buying the sdcc blaster to replace my original blaster i had as a kid the tape deck is long since broke but it has the aweseome feature, you could put a cassette in his back. i was wondering if the sdcc reissue retains this feature or if they did away with it. also if anyone has one for sale for a reasonable price lemme know

I wasn't even aware you could do that with the G1, are you referring to the battery compartment? If so the SDCC version doesn't have that.

Its still a great figure though

Weapon: Electro-Laser Cannon
Are you just referring to putting a cassette into him? Because yes, he can carry cassettes, but the G1 toy never held them through the back.

nope i got a g1 figure that could hold a cassette in his back along with the front compartment. it was fashioned like a battery compartment but he didnt come with the weapons like soundwave. i really wish i could find one in better condition. a little research uncovered that the diaclone version had speakers that actually worked in his legs also.

And we have a winner... sorta.

The Blaster mold, or to be precise the Microman Radi-Casse Robo mold on which he's based, has a compartment in the back that can hold a cassette. In reality, that spot is for the Radio component that's shaped like a mini-Cassette, hence the name Radi-Casse Robo. It's not a battery compartment: those are hidden in the legs.

yeah thats about right. but mine wasnt blue and im pretty sure you could fit a cassette in his chest. my older brother has a grimlock he got when he was a kid that came with a little driver like the diaclone version but he lost the driver. i dont think hasbro version came with a driver but he swears by it. i wonder if it was a dollar store knock off, i would love to see one of those!

If it cames with a driver guy it was Diaclone.

Diaclone are the TF predecessors.

When Hasbro took over they removed the drivers to make the robots feel more like they functioned on their own.

You can of course still see how they could fit in the figures as the toys weren't retooled to ditch that option.

yeah im familiar with the diaclone. i got a diaclone version of sunstreaker with a little guy. i dont know how he could have gotten a diaclone version of the toy when he was a kid, im pretty sure those toys werent sold in us toy stores. thats why i assumed it was some kind of knock off of the same mold that might have used to driver mold also. to bad the sdcc verision of the blaster toy doesnt have the compartment in the back though. why did hasbro alter the mold of the original blaster to not include the compartment after they released blaster in the u.s originally that had the leftover compartment? and about how much more is the hasbro versions with the back compartment worth?

Eh... I don't think you read the whole thread.

The Transformers that transform into items, like Megatron, Soundwave, Blaster, Perceptor, Reflector and the cassettes, all came from the Microchange sub-line of Microman, the second main line of origin for TF's. Even the first year Mini-Bots came from that line, being modeled after Penny Racers that were slightly deformed. And no, they didn't come with drivers.
