The Incredible Shrinking Soundwave
The Incredible Shrinking Soundwave

Soundwave is one of my all-time favorite characters, easily in the top 10 and maybe even top 5. Yet beyond G1, I am just not a big fan of this guy's toys. Don't get me wrong, the Music Label was cool in its own way and Generations Cybertronian Soundwave had some good points, also.
The thing is, scale is very important to me and having grown up with the 1984 version (undoubtedly one of the best toys ever made in ANY line) I just have a major beef with all of these midget Soundwaves we keep on getting. To me, this guy is supposed to be one big, badass Decepticon and not only are we not getting Voyager sized figs of him (aside from the Cybertron line), his figs even look a little smurfy when next to other deluxes. For that reason, I can't go with the majority and consider him a true "Classicsverse Soundwave" Also for that reason, I'm going to make a somewhat rare Human Alliance purchase because I just feel the size will display much better. (Btw, ROTF Soundwave was one of the shortest deluxes in any line in recent memory)
Having said that, I have 2 questions for everyone. First, does anyone else feel this way about Soundwave? Secondly, what characters do you feel have gotten the biggest shaft when it comes to scale? If possible, name someone who has had multiple toys like that. It doesn't even have to be someone who was always made too big or even too small every time, it could be a combination of both. For instance, with Galvatron we've gotten the G1 version who gives Optimus, Rodimus and even Megatron a complex while his classics version is one of the worst offenses for a figure that didn't get the deluxe treatment.
I'm eager to hear your thoughts.

IMHO,The original 1984 Soundwave toy was TOO OVER SIZED.
I also don't like any of the soundwave toys that came out after generation one ended.

the deluxe is too small IMO, and rare. Starscream's jet mode is never to scale either...

Soundwave has an odd habit of taking small alt modes, ones that Hasbro usually don't do Voyagers of. What's worse is Starscream nearly always takes a jet, which are HUUUUGE (50+ feet) and often get Voyagers or larger, so he nearly always outsizes Soundwave. And that's without applying any kind of scale.
Hope we get a Voyager (or larger) Soundwave at some point, any Soundwave. Heck, RotF Mindwipe could easily be repainted as him (and Skystalker as Ratbat or someone).

"He may end up destroying a nearby planet or two, but such is life."

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am that which is, which was, and is yet to come.
And you will know my name is MEGATRON when I lay my vengeance upon you!

Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

I thought it was his catch phrase kind of like:

On topic, I don't really care about the size of Soundwave as long as his character is well represented. I was watching some episodes of Cybertron the other night and "Let me spin this for you", I'm regretting not picking up that toy. G1 is iconic for sure, but I look forward to the next reinvention of him. I actually liked him as a satellite in ROTF better than his DOTM alt mode.

I rather enjoyed how he looked in ROTF, just not in the toyline. Besides his deluxe being tiny, they never made a fig even close to that film color scheme (and they kept on repainting him, too)
Haha, as far as WST Soundwave goes, well that WAS one small Soundwave I DID enjoy!
