What does the '90s have to do with anything? It's not like the ignorant belief that something is corrupting children is exclusive to the last thirteen years; Video games have been under scrutiny since the '80s, Dungeons and Dragons was under fire for alleged Satanism since the '70s, rock and roll since the '60s, hell, the Comics Code Authority came about in the '50s due to someone publishing a book about how comic books turn kids into violent homosexuals!
tl;dr version: This isn't new.
And by the by, the '90s were lacking in common sense. That was the decade people decided to let Joel Schumacher direct Batman twice.

Still the 90s were cool, we saw the rise of the Power Rangers, ReBoot, Pokemon, Digimon, Beast Wars, Gargoyles, Star Trek was kinda dying off, everyone was hyped about Star Wars Episode 1 before it came out and disappointed, and i guess the Powerpuff girls were cool too.
