I am of two minds abouit cleaning it. I love how it looks clean, but I also don't want to alter it... ugh, I wish I can have two... :P

Question for those who have dared to clean, how did you go about cleaning over and around the wingstripes and is the silver on the engine covers and other decals.

What sort of steps did you take?

The only paint apps that I went over were the red rectangles that are on the top of the air intakes, and I had no problems at all. The rest of it didn't have enough weathering to warrant going over.

And all that I used was 70% alcohol and Q-tips. No other steps or prep was necessary. The weathering comes off very easily, but the paint apps seem to be much harder to take off. I haven't gotten around to cleaning the nosecone yet, so I couldn't tell you how much.

I wonder then if, when mine decides to arrive, going over it lightly will remove it just enough to lighten it if mine is really dark in spots.

I wonder if my home made hooch will be strong enough :P

I don't know.

I kinda like him with the weathering even though it is uneven and some panels are weathered right next to clean ones lol.

On a side note, does mp03 have that little crown emblem?

I'm beginning to wonder why takara's anime ss is getting moved back and also what the heck those notches on his shoulder are for... Since 06 came with the minimum and takaras ss is basically a repaint, would it be a stretch for it to have some "extras" to entice another purchase?

I have an extra one misb that I want to sell with my ml soundwave, so anyone else interested give me a pm.

So all of them will have the same kind of smirk? ;;)

I didnt know that they put a smirk on MP Screamer's face but I could modify that real eazy.

my "smirk-face" is so badly painted i may re-do it

Why the need to paint the face? All Seekers have the same silver-colored faces. Only the body color changes.

some people who cleaned their MP Starscreams on TFW2005 say they are now having plastic degradation problems.

So to answer your plastic care questions is CP....

I have Transformed him so many times now never got that problem.

Maybe he just dont know where the right point to snap twist and fold the wing part  .

Hasbro SS is my 3rd screamer mold now after MP03 and MP06 thats why Im confident in transforming him.

If the paint coat is thin enough, it won't be such a big problem. Usually thick coats are the ones degrading fast.

Doesn't work that way unfortunately. As you rub the alcohol, its the light/thin area that goes first, while the darker thicker paint spots remains. So you can't really lighten up the burnt marks. You'll lose all the fading transition areas first. So either clean it entirely or leave it. No inbetween. :p

I cleaned mine, but only on the back pf the plane, and under the wings. They just look awkward to have such burnt marks on the back and wing flaps. But I left the nosecone, the arm lasers alone, and didn't attempt to rub off the silver paint. I use 70% alcohol, and its only strong enough to get the burnt marks (dark metalic silver paint) off. The light silver and red paint are of a different base, so they don't get desolve easy by alcohol. Don't want to risk damaging the toy, so I'll leave those silver paint alone. Don't look that bad actually, and saw Starscream does have grey nosecone in the animated movie. So can't say its totally inaccurate.

I like the scorch marks, at least the idea of them, but the execution leaves something to be desired.

Whomever painted mine did so with a heavy hand!!!!

I'm still up in the air about whether to remove the scorching. If I do, I may end up reapplying paint. He is definitely getting detail paint work!

I've chosen to leave mine as it's quite light. But my husband thinks the weathering is kinda silly.

So what's this about plastic degredation? What's happening to the figure?

No I won't mess with it. My MP Optimus and Megatron have some paint scapes and dust, but it just makes them look like they've been in battle.

I do think the weathering in some spots are silly looking. They would work if its applied very lightly, like the very light streaks on the bottom of the tail fins. I mean, even my car get some of those after driving freeway a lot without a car wash. But when its so dark, its not realistic any more, look more like the jet got burnt. But yet, those are not shaped like it took some hit or damage. So I cleaned up some of the ones I don't like, but keep some in areas that makes sense. Though there are some lucky few that has pretty light application on theirs, so those don't look as bad.

In terms of the plastic degrading, its basically some people start to spot the stress marks on the big wing flip up hinge joint (with a tiny metal pin), the same spot where MP-03 had problems. Some due to using Testors paint thinner for cleaning (which will melt plastic as Testors are way too strong, ironically, they are made for plastic models). Others suspect the alcohol might do something to it too, but there are a number of examples with parts dipping in alchohol entirely for a good amount of time, with no ill effects at all. So its also possible that some of the pins wasn't inserted properly at the assembly, so causing premature stressing on that hinge, as some people that didn't clean their MPSS got stress marks too. So it could also be the plastic quality not being as good as what people thought it was.

All you do is pull his head down and twist it to the other face. My Wal-Mart in Wv is stocked to high heaven with em. I though about making the other ones out of him too.

i should have been more specific: i meant one of the eyes is sloppy-looking. its slightly to the left on his right eye. but now that i have him displayed, its barely noticible because the helmet's shadow covers it up. besides that and some wash, he is perfect.

the plastic quality does not seem good, I could feel it. when I compared it by touch to MP-03 it felt much more brittle. but still sweet. I checked out that large hing joint and so far, so good.

As for the jet burnt... hehehehehe, the RP universe I play in, there is a character named Phoenix, she's a pyrokenetic. I wouldn't be surprised she singed his wings :P
