My wife and I live in a relatively small apartment, so most of my TF's are packed away, both in several cupboards across the house and in external storage. I often have no idea where I can find which TF (which sometimes makes selling stuff a real pain; knowing I have something but not knowing where it currently resides).
Ah, that's the same I have with ten boxes of my Italian comic Topolino (Mickey Mouse).
They're all in the garage, or in a wardrobe, one in my room in Italy and several numbers scattered between grandparent and mother's house.
The best plan is to archive them all before boxing them. Then write on the box the year or series or the colour or what have you.
But as I said, it needed doing before. That's a lot of rainy days of work now.

I still have a want list (also in my brain), but it's getting pretty short these days.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am that which is, which was, and is yet to come.
And you will know my name is MEGATRON when I lay my vengeance upon you!

Excel spreadsheet? Text document? Hand-written list?
I for one really wished there was something like what BoardGameGeek does for board-, video- and roleplaying games: An easy way of tracking your collection, including comments, rating, sorting by different criteria ... only for action figures in general and for Transformers in particular.
I use excel spread sheet to keep track of all the Transformers I have. And its broken down in to different catagories. Series name, bot name, faction, alternate mode, series name, complete, box, what i paid for a Transformers, and average price on ebay.
This sheet is updated every time I get a new Transformers.
I also keep stats of Total transformers, Total Versions of Optimus Prime, Total that are complete, Total Japanese Transformers, Total 3rd Party add ond, and Total still factory sealed!! This sheet took a long time to put together but it was soo worth it!!!!
