To those of you who already own Hot Spot/the Protectobots, are you happy with the figures? I'm just curious, as I'm planning on picking them up, but I'm kind of undecided about Hot Spot right now.

Hot Spot is one of my favorites. Great figure. Looking forward to the various remolds.

Seconded. Defensor is, IMO, the best of the CW line. Maybe even the best toy of 2015.

I am. On their own, each are retooled just enough to feel unique to their respective characters, with Hot Spot as the standout figure.
Combined, Defensor is chunky, but appropiately so being the sturdy defensive one. He has better legs than Menasor/Optimus Maximus, but not as good as Superior. Like any of the combiners, it runs into stability issues if the knees are bent too much, but then with the weight of the five combined that's a given.

They are great, first-aid is my favorite limb, street-wise' alt mode is sooo sexy, and rook is flat out fun (he looks so murderous with mirages sword plugged into his hand) and I love hotspot, the alt mode is so great, it fulfills many inner childhood dreams of having some crazy hybrid airport firetruck with an articulated arm

His bit mode is really great, and if you run into problems posing defensor, just angle the thumb/heels inwards, and use the arms to counterbalance the pose.
BUT, if you just want to experience the molds, maybe wait til onslaught

I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Sorry to be a debbie downer but I am not as big a fan as most. Especially of Hotspot. The Defensor limbs are fine. I dont own alpha bravo so Blades was my first experience with the helicopter mold and it is really good, especially as a nice sleek leg (surprisingly). The remolds for Streetwise and First aide are an improvement over the original figures as well.
But Hotspot himself is really weak. He feels very cheap and hollow. The ratchet joints at his hips dont let you pose him properly as just hotspot. The alt mode is really lack luster and looks far too stretched out, making it look quite lazy. You can see his head plainly too in the middle of his vehicle mode. The latch on his chest pops off easily and his ladder is made of a squishy cheap feeling plastic. This really doesnt feel solid at all and I am greatly dissapointed in it. The only saving grace is the torso transformation which is quite witty. However, you end up with a very stocky combiner which doesnt look imposing in the least compared to Menasor or Superion who are taller than him and a bit leaner too. His torso mode had a lot of kibble around the shoulder area, limiting the movement of his arms, unlike Superion who keeps that area free and open.
It might not be as bad as I make it sound but hopefully I brought some hype down. I had only read great things and was very dissapointed with the result.

He's hollow so he doesn't fall over under his own weight like a certain, poorly designed torso-bot...
And traditional ladder trucks (which this seems to be some perverse modernization of) are very long.
Plus, you can turn the head around before you flip it into his chest cavity

We need to start a petition to hasbro to at least make an evil version of that mold, as the combined mode head and 'beast' mode scream/

I thought about the Giant Purple Griffon when I first seen Skylynx but after reading Hellscream say something about black and gold I was reminded of someone else. DOTM Hatchet.

Hatchet is an awesome little guy, kinda wish he was a deluxe though. And if you think about it sky reigns head is pretty similar to Hatchets as is.

robotmel wrote::D
I am pleased Hasbro have developed a modern wave of Combiners for all us fans, Computron being one of the G1 gestalts I used to own, so this new, modern Generations version pending will make a nice addition to my growing Combiner collection!
All this talk of Combiner heads has made me dig out photos of the original G1 heads of both Computron and Superion for a quick comparison.![]()
G1 Computron headshot.
G1 Superion headshot.
They are both very similar apart from the antenna, so using the same Combiner Wars gestalt head for both moulds would be more of a nod towards the G1-era of Transformers and help offer further remoulding changes elsewhere?
Im keen to see the various limb-bots in all their futuristic glory!
I only had Scattershot from the Technobots. I loved that toy. I loved the alt mode. I loved the robot mode. I loved the Computron torso mode which I used in place of Silverbolt as my combiner with the Aerialbots because it was a better torso.
The combiner heads are very similar, so all Hasbro has to do to get Computron's (Betatron's) head right is replace the mouth plate with a mouth (hello nonnef, you'll need to recolor your replacement antennae). However, the chest plates are different near the shoulders, as the pictures clearly show. Hasbro is being very lazy in not replacing the plates that make the chest piece, and if they don't remold the face, that's a double whammy. Also, the gun is supposed to be brown, not silver. I can live the the other paint differences in the arms as they double as the combiner thighs, so compromises are necessary there. But...
That's not Scattershot, and I don't know that I can get past the vehicle mode. Scattershot looks like this:

And that is the unique look I fell in love with as a kid and made me want the toy. I love how the arms end up above and below the body of the ship, with the legs along the sides. It is one of the coolest looking space craft of G1 (IMHO). I believe Habro could have figured out how to heavily retool the Silverbolt mold to create the twist in transformation that makes Scattershot, well, Scattershot. But instead we get Silverbolt as Scattershot. At least Cyclonus worked. This doesn't. The robot works. The torso without the chest and head remolding doesn't. And that's too bad because I really got excited when I heard about the figure, and I wondered how Hasbro would pull it off. They failed. I hope Hasbro does complete the Technobots, though it's not likely I'll be purchasing any of them, but never say never, right?
As for Onslaught/Bruticus, I knew AB was always a repaint of Vortex, but I can live with that. I like Blastoff as a jet, except for the name and lack of new head. I hope we eventually get a proper Blastoff like we did with Slingshot/Quickslinger.
My gestaults moving forward will include only Superion and Bruticus as I can only justify one combiner a year (Superion this year, Bruticus next). If possible I will get Skylynx, though that largely depends on if his torso mode is solid. As Autobots go I will stick with flyers to add to my Aerialbots. I said before I wish Powerglide was a deluxe limb as I like options. I wish Hasbro would have thought to upgrade the figure to deluxe limb so that his Viper counterpart could become the army builder for Galvatronus. That would be cool, though way out of my price range. If I can get Cyclonus cheap to be an alternate torso for the Combaticons I will, and if Hasbro releases a limb option that makes sense to add to the Combaticons, I'll get that, too (one Viper would have worked great for that). I'm undecided on Shockwave as Bruticus' gun because I'm concerned about the weight being too much for the joints to hold, as well as Shockwave being so small in robot mode.
Overall, I'm looking forward to Bruticus, and I don't know that I care which version of the chest I end up with (green or silver), though I wish Hasbro would have released for normal retail and made the other available via HTS or some other exclusive option (online or maybe a TRU exclusive) so we could have chosen for ourselves which version to purchase instead of waiting to find out what we get or in some cases going with Takara.
Still, I'm very excited about Bruticus as he will be my first ever Scramble City Decepticon Combiner. I had the G1 Constructicons, but the Titan class figure turned out to be a huge disappointment to me so I went with other Transformers this year instead and saved some money. I know Takara tried to fix some of my problems with the figures, but too many things still bug me. Call me crazy but I wish he would have been made of six deluxes instead of voyagers. Not only would the price point have been better for me, having him face off against Superion would have worked, too, and then I'd have my Decepticon combiner and not get Bruticus as I can forgive issues with Deluxes that I cannot forgive with Voyagers.
But Bruticus it will be, and my Classics Starscream will have his brigade!

Is $200 the actual price for these sets? Seems really high considering that the original combiners only run about $120

Hey Hellscream ya know what might look pretty cool? Galvatronus with G2 Menasor limbs. Or G2 Aerialbots for that matter.
Just day dreaming over here.![]()

While I love Dragstrip, and most of the aerialbots, I don't know if I can drop ~$200 for neon repaints, but they probably would look nice.
Is $200 the actual price for these sets? Seems really high considering that the original combiners only run about $120
Well, you mentioned both, so I lumped the prices together. I remembered it was mentioned somewhere that all the box sets would be $100, so, yeah

I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Technically Cobo mentioned them I just asked about the price lol. But $200 for both isn't bad, much better than $200 a piece

Ya I'm not in any hurry to shell out cash on repaints either. I just thought they would look good together.

Edit: I should say, "any MORE repaints".
