Board Games, Anyone?
- Weapon: Stinger Missile
What board games do you guys play, D&D-style RPG's included?
I myself like playing Zombies!!!. It has enough expansions (and spin-offs) and enough flexibitlity that you can customize it to play however you want. And the game can take anywhere from half an hour to all night depending on how you want to play. This same company also makes an interesting game called the Haunting House, which is good but not as interesting.
I also play Bang, which is a western game where you take a role and try to fulfill its objective, either to kill the sherriff or just last until the end of the game. I only play this at work and don't own it; I'm trying to find it to buy, but everywhere I go, it's not there. And the Internet sites kill me on shipping.
I'm into Monopoly, that old classic. Taboo was good for a while, but got old, as did Scrabble. I never got into Risk.
Other than that, it's normal card games for me, which probably don't really constitute a board game.

Ahhhh Risk.....that wasted so many hours on deployments
Axis And Allies was a fav of mine.
Monopoly, Sorry, Operation....
Anybody remember the mousetrap game?
I did play D&D with my bro, but then we moved apart so that's kinda stagnated.
Trivial Pursuit!

My all time favorite board game is a Days of Wonder game called Shadows over Camelot. Its a King Arthur game (naturally) where you basically work with the other people to defeat the board itself. Every turn you take an evil action, like setting catapults against Camelot, then you do a good action like going to save the Holy Grail.
In the way of traditional board games I hate Monopoly. It always takes way too long and I can never stay interested. I really enjoy Scrabble.

I like Monopoly. Too bad very few people want to play with me because I'm an asshole when I play.

My favorite game of all time is a Cheapass game called "Deadwood." It's a movie-studio game where you take on roles and try to become the most prestigious actor on the lot. The movie titles and role names are hilarious. There are expansions for scifi, horror, etc.
I also like Phase 10; it's probably the non-rpg I play most often.
Then, of course, there's DnD 3.5 and 4th editions currently.

Growing up it was Monopoly. We had a couple other games that were pretty good (Scotland Yard, various Trivial pursuits)
When I got back into board games with friends a few years back, It mostly came down to Risk. Primarily Risk 2210, which is a great game.
A few others we play somewhat regularly that's worth trying is Munchkin with plenty of offshoots for all flavors, Settlers of Catan (usually set for 6 players with a couple but not all the expansions) or the more traditional Scattergories and Balderdash.

I'm kind of with Bloodlust on this one. Except I can't pull off the cool-speak. Chess = the most vicious and ego-destroying fun you can have that you can buy at TRU.
Seriously debated the TF chess set, actually. Kind of regret not snapping it up.
HK, best, of course, when listening to 'one night in bangkok' (it's a chess reference!)

It's a reference to a stage production based on a chess tournament called 'Chess' to be a bit more accurate.
Editor, who bought the soundtrack for the play just to get a copy of said song.

Well we're all talking about Chess, anyone else here love Checkers? My granddad had dozens of Checkers trophies, he won several tournaments in checkers. I guess it runs in the family, I hate to brag but I'm a pretty good Checker player.
I also forgot to say how much I love Clue and Scotland Yard. The Munchkin games are also awesome, and all the expansions.

I've been trying to get into Warhammer and Warhammer 40k for years. A combination of lack of funds and in inability to find anyone else who plays keep me out of it.

Never been worried about fantasy Warhammer as it never appealed to me beyond the Skaven which seemed like the only race that i bothered to read the articles for.
For 40K, it's much the same story, I first learned about the game at a time when thou I had the money, I didn't know any other players, and the local GW store (only 1 at that time now there is about 4 around here) thou a nifty place, the guys working there at the time only took the time for new players during special event days which I could never make it to. By the time I found out that I did actually know a few people who played, I no longer had the funds available as then I started paying rent.
Thou I'm still interested enough to pick up the odd issue of White Drawf, It's not enough to start building a decent army.

I really do like board games, but can never seem to find any one to play them with. Some of my friends like some board games but generally have a hard time getting into new games. So we play our stabdard assortment of games.
We like to play Monopoly, though one of the wives always seems to kick the everliving daylights out of us guys every time.
We also like Apples to Apples, though that's more of a party game than a board game. But it does tend to get really hilarious at times. The best one still is when someone decided that Unhealthy was a good definition for the 1980's. We were all laughing so hard for like 20 minutes before we could continue the game.
There's also Scene It! which lends itself to teams very nicely.
And recently I purchased this obscure game called Carcassonne where the object is to build a medieval landscape using tiles and control the most features like cities, roads and farms with your little men.
Its actually quite a bit of fun, though I have found some resistance in playing it amongst my friends.
Our favorite so far is Cashflow. Where you need to make money from different business ventures, like buying real estate, or starting companies etc.. to get out of the every day circle of life and move onto the Millionaires circle and make your dream come true.
Its a really fun game, can get pretty long, but it really takes you into making good investments and deals to make more money than what you are spending.

Monopoly, Chess, Star Wars Miniatures, and some board games that aren't too popular outside of my country: one of them could be translated as Cleverly Management, the other is Treasure of Silver Lake (after the Karl May book) - the latter was really awesome.
