Barricade Jin style

Postby Asepticon » Tue Aug 21, 2007 2:25 pm

Ok guys, I am working on a Barricade similar to that which was produced by Jin Saotome's custom. Well here it is so far. I worked in the head and hands from The Robot Replicas Barricade. It is unfortunate that I have to remove the hands to transform him, but I still like this better than the origional product. Critics are welcome as I want this to be as nice as it can get. Disclaimer: this is a work in progress, I've only done a little preliminary painting so far.

By the way, Jin. Thank you x infinity! I don't think I'll ever be fortunate enough to win one of your creations, but it is SO nice that you share your knowledge like you do. You're just an all around swell guy! Thanks again.

Very nice. Did you add the strobing light bar? What did you make that chainsaw thingy out of?

The chainsaw thingy comes with the Robot Replicas Barricade as an attachable accessary so that means you can attach it to this Barricade as well. I haven't yet installed the lights, but I will if I can find the parts. I'll post more pics of him as I progress.

I see you decided to plug the hands into his thumb? I tried that, but it didnt look normal... so I chipped off some of the replica hand and glued a magnet onto it, so that you can just magnetically stick it on there.

Anywho, yours looks pretty good. I'd love to see more pics of it as you progress. I just finished mine today, you can check it out if you want: http://seibertron.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15671&sid=

I've gotten more painting done I'll post more pics today I think. I have to order more/different paint before I can finish. I'm glad you like it, but remember, I totally am going off of Jin Saotome's design for the most part. You can see his masterful creation here...

The neat thing is, if you were to look at the fingers of the weapon hand, they curl in a way that makes sense if you use it on either side. I didn't actually remember which side he used it on, but it can be used on either. I love this thing! I've got to order the rest of the paints I need to finish it other than the parts that are silver. So my next update might not be for a bit. Actually after seing this other guy's version a few posts up, I'm a little discouraged. I mean these guys are real artists and I am such a novice. Still. I'm not trying to sell mine so I guess as long as I'm happy with it... Ireally want to own one of Jin's customs, though. The guy's a freak'n genious.

Asepticon wrote:Man! That looks so good! I'm working on one too (slowly) but after seeing yours I realized that I didn't assemble the hands right. I just cut off the tip of his old thumb, ground it thinner and put the new hand right on it. It was disappointing to me because I realised that I could not transform him without taking off the hands. Can you transform yours without taking off the hands? Can you please tell me how you assembled the hands? Yours line up very nicely and mine, well, you can imagine how mine are. Please help.

Thanks! I read your thread, and I apologize for the discouragement... that was not my intention at all. And I am happy to help you out!

Yea, Jin said on his site that he just 'plugged' the new hands into the thumb... but it didnt look right when I did it. In fact, it looked just like yours :P

So what I did is I chipped off about half of the new hans (the forearm part I guess) and super glued a magnet onto it. Now it fits easily onto that metal circle on his arm, and looks natural as well. Unfortunately, I need to remove the hands when transforming as well. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your responses guys. Jin, It doesn't look like you dtuck your Hand into the old thumb either did I misunderstand? I want to try your methode of making a golden color out of clear yellow and silver for Frenzy, but what is the name of the clear yellow? I tried using the link on your site and put in "clear yellow for a search but nothing showed up. Would "Pearl Yellow" be it? I wasn't sure of the best purple either so I ordered night purple and warrior purple. Hopefully one of them suits Barricade. DvD, thanks for helping. The magnet holds good, then? If there is any other advise you guys can give, I'm wide open to suggestion. Thanks-a-bunch.

Yes, magnet holds VERY well. They are the rare-earth magnets, which are really strong. In fact, when you put two of the magnets togethers, they're almost impossible to take apart without players (also b/c they're so small). But they arent too difficult to take off when attached to the new hands, but still stay on very well thanks to their strength.

Lemme know if you have any questions. You can ask questions on the CBox on my site, or just PM me!

That'll probabaly help you more than anything else.

The yellow for Frenzy can be done in two ways. For the palegold, use Citadel flesh wash over the silver. For the shining bright yellow gold, use Tamyia clear yellow over the silver.

Thanks Jin! I can't believe I'm still winning your Brawl. You must be thinking the same thing. I thought it would be nearing double that amount by now. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get sniped. Thank you so much for the pic. That does help alot.

OK, folks, Mr. Saotome, and Mr. DvD, I have given alot of thought into what everyone has been saying about the Jin Style Barricade. No doubt Jin's style and concept is nothing short of genious in my opinion. However David's methode of implamenting earth magnets, while it does take away rist articulation, is still the best looking I think. I went with the earth magnet methode. I also used Jin's tutorial to instal the lights. One thing I have thought long on is the head. I like the silver head, but is it Barricade? I've been eyeballing the movie concept image and, well, the size is good, I think better than the regular toy head, but the color? It's kind of a silvery black with some silver around the mouth area. I used another methode in Jin's tutorials about painting to make it a silvery black head. My piece is still not done yet. I need to get my purple and copper in the mail, I hope soon. I will post pics of what I have so far. I hope that all of my mentors and encouragers give me some support and advice. Most of all, thank you Jin and David. You have done so much to enhance my Transformers experience. I can't thank you enough. PS I wish I could take better pics. These Aren't very good.

Very nice! Yes, the magnet method does take quite a bit of time, but I think the results look great as well.

Good job, and keep up the great work!

Oh I didn't get it to move, I moved it myself. LOL, sorry bad joke. :P

Well, first off, I cut off the old head, The part that remains connected, you can just push that down so it's out of the way. Next, I cut into Robot Replicas Barricade until I could get out the entire joint that connects the head. I noticed that there is a little round part at the bottom of the joint that holds the joint into the old body. I simply flatened oposite sides of that round piece so that one pies sticks out from each side. You'll notice inside the neck area of the deluxe Barricade, there are groovs inside that allow you to move the old part up and down. Cut just enough space to allow you to put the new joint in with force. It should be a tight fit. If you do not understand, let me know if you are attempting your own and I will post a pic of what I did. It's the least I could do for all the help that I have received.

I was just curious thats all. The only thing ive done to mine is install the lights, i dont plan on doing anything else to him. Although....come to think of it a movable head would be nice...but ive got other things i need/want to work on first.

Thanks anyway. Ive actually installed my own balljoint before, i just added one to my custom movie ironhide infact, the results are great! Hopefully i'll have it finished soon cos i think people are gonna love it.
