My first repaint (Breacher)

Postby Zeroptimus » Sun Jan 09, 2011 2:01 am

Hello all. Bit of a newbie here. First time joining the forum, and also first time ever messing around with my transformers. Anyway, below is my repaint of Breacher. He isn't completely finished, as you can see small bits of his original paint scheme. Some parts are hard to get to and Some just aren't even seen at all until the camera catches them. Anyway, it's my first! He's still drying a little bit, so I'll post pictures of his alt mode once he's finished drying, which will be tomorrow.

Okay, sorry for the delay. Work has gotten in the way with things. I was dismayed a bit at the parts that have chipped or began to show through. Turns out transforming Breacher constantly at work has worn some of the paint down. So you can see parts of the original scheme still showing through due to my screw ups, but...ah well. I'll be touching him up, transforming him, and sticking him on the shelf. I'll buy another for playing with at my desk for 8 hours a day.

Pictures updated at the top.

You didn't varnish him, did you? You need to to protect your hard work. I've varnished mine and continued playing with them and they aren't damaged.

The camo looks great, the blotches have nice clean edges.

I have two suggestions:
1) the silver parts would look better if you learned how to drybrush,
2) the white parts look very plasticy. If you paint them white they will look much better.

What do you use to varnish? Does it help with rubbing on the ball joints, too? (I'm also working on my first ever re-paint after years of lurking - which also happens to be a Breacher. Such a great mold.)

I'm using Tamiya acrylics, if that makes any difference.

For acrylics you need to varnish. An art shop may be able to recommend something but you'll need to test it first to make sure it doesn't react with the paint.

I don't know what to do about ball joints. There's so much rubbing there.

Yeah, you were right. I haven't applied any varnish. I need to, but have no clue how. Will be making a trip down to Michael's to buy some. After I touch him up, he's flaking a bit from a few areas. I'll do some work and...varnish, I guess. I'll paint something real cheap to make sure it doesn't react badly. I'm using enamel paint though instead of acrylic, think that'll do anything?

If you're using enamel you shouldn't really need varnish. Ball joints are just a lost cause though - I don't think they can be protected.
