Modifying HftD leader Starscream

Weapon:
Plasma Cannon
I want to mod my HftD leader SS by giving him LEDs in his chest and head, maybe get rid of his voice box too. Problem is, I've never done any kitbashes before and don't want to screw him up. Any tips?

whenever you are not sure of how to do something, take notes and/or pictures, ex. metal pin comes in trough left side of chest, shortest bolt goes on neck, stuff like that. Pics are good whenever there are cables, they tend to break loose and it will be almost impossible to know where they were welded when many get loose....
