Looking for agent/solution to remove paint from Universe Razorclaw’s beast claws!

Postby OmarJT82 » Wed Nov 14, 2012 1:05 pm

Fellow members,

I'm looking for a chemical agent/solution to remove the silver paint from the front arm claws Universe Ultra class Razorclaw’s beast mode.

My previous attempts (listed below) were unsuccessful:

  • Immersed them in Paint Thinner for 1 hour!
  • Immersed them in Odorless Mineral Spirits for 1 hour!
  • Immersed them in Bleach for 1 hour!
  • Immersed them in 91% Isopropyl Alcohol for 24 hours!
My next plan is to immerse them in Castrol Super Clean, but in light of my previous attempts, I'm not 100% sure it will work.

Does anybody know what other chemical agents/solutions that might help me remove the paint from the claws without damaging the plastic itself?

100% rubbing alcohol?

Are you going to paint them over after removing the paint?

You can also try using sand papers. Use the rough one to lightly scratch off the paints and then use the fine and very fine one to smooth and shine the surface.

The term "rubbing alcohol" has become a general non-specific term for Isopropyl Alcohol and the only highest one available is 91%.

What about Denatured Alcohol? Will that work?

And I am not going to paint them over after I remove the paint.

Weapon: Null-Ray Rifle
Try Gunze's Gundam marker "eraser pen." It's basically alcohol thinner in a marker. Somewhat corrosive, but safe enough on plastics. I accidentally got some on the handle of my Swiss Army knife, and it melted the red paint.

Strangely, it leaves model kit plastics more or less unharmed. I haven't tried it on the kind of paint Hasbro uses, but it works fine on Gundam marker paints. Those marker paints are nigh impossible to remove once they dry, and if the stuff can clean them off, there's a good chance it'll work on Hasbro's paints as well.

But be careful, as too much of it will slightly whiten the plastic. Use a q-tip moistened with the stuff and gently brush over it--a little goes a long way.
