Noob Masterpiece collection
Noob Masterpiece collection
I have been out of the TF game for quite a while, and recently re-watched my copy of the '86 movie which I still love today. That got me into searching for a G1 Sideswipe online (he was always my favorite, and my very first transformer ever). Well 20 minutes in and I discovered that there are still tons of transformer related things alive and well in the world. I immediately discovered the masterpiece class transformers and fell in love.
Here is what I have collected in just a few short months...
First the Decepticons...
(I know he is not masterpiece scale but detail wise he is a great homage to the movie figure)
Now the Autobots...
I haven't got any special shelving for them...yet. I am going to be going to Ikea for some dtolf shelving. In addtion, to getting some backgrounds from toyhax (toystages).
My pre-order list (which I can NOT wait to get) includes:
MX-I Apollyon (not Megs)
Shuraking SKR-1
Shuraking SKR-2
Will be adding Sideswipe (both Versions), SmokeScreen and WheelJack in about week...can't wait for them to get here!

Re: Noob Masterpiece collection
I have added a few more pieces to my collection not all masterpiece scale. But I love'em just the same.
TG23 Metroplex, I didn't think the original price was worth the extra blaster/paint apps but I ended up getting him for a few dollars more than the Hasbro version. He is also stickered up with Reprolabels.
Smokescreen (the fairlady z bro's were always some of my favs)
G2 Sideswipe didn't really follow the G2 comics but I like his reverse color scheme and Rambo look...
TurboEjector (Afterburner) always liked Computron as well, was contemplating Quantron which based on reviews and such looks like a great figure but not MP scaled. So I opted for the Warbotron combiner, I have to say he really is a solid figure. My only complaint is the clear cowling at the front has an ultra super tight tolerance; which is nice but on a translucent plastic part is is scary and I do have stress crack
but I have done some operating to lower the tolerance and fix mend the cracks...
iGear Shark Squad (Sharkticons) had to get some of these guys, esp since they were reduced. These really are some pointy lil'dudes.
Again always loved Bruticus but most of the combiners out there are not in scale with MP, so I again opted for Warbotron. These guys are good, Turbo Ejector as a figure is better, so they are getting better quality wise. Although I will say none of them have any problems like the tight tolerance on TE, but there quality is not as good as his, nor their fit and finish. I will say Sly Strike is the best our of the three so far, can't wait for the remainder of the team.

havent seen you around, so welcome!
great collection so far! having a specific focus for your collection is very smart. do you plan on getting any other oddballs like tigertrack or silverstreak?

Hey thanks, yes focus is good coz there is soo much out there!
I am trying to get all of my G1 favs in MP scale is possible. I do plan on getting BlueStreak, however Silverstreak not sure, TigerTrack...meh. I would consider TigerTrack if no one does a good homage/official Sunstreaker.

patience is a virtue. hastak seems to be going hard on the G1 cars, and they already have the licensing from lambo, so im confident theyll get to sunstreaker sooner or later. now that i think about it... for some reason i seem to be more attached to the oddball MP's than the normal ones. my personal faves are: YOTH prime, soundblaster, and the comic grimlock (MP08X).donny1975 wrote:Hey thanks, yes focus is good coz there is soo much out there!

I am all over G2 BB as well, got him on pre-order....long wait though

Thanks, I have been a little obsessed since I re-watched that damned '86 movie

Yeah I think I watched every single review for each of them 3 times before deciding on them. I am happy with them.
I was looking at the other Dino-clones out there, and I am digging the design aesthetic on these a lot. I know there is not a lot of info on them and yes I did notice that no one else seems to be talking about them...

I am currently awaiting:
Brawny and Backland
The Shuraking bots
Apollyon
PE Warden (totally in love this this figure and I am not a Fort Max fan)
The other two Warbotron combiners
He isn't MP but I have Green Giant coming as well, aesthetically I think does a really great job of recreating the G1 look.

Re: Noob Masterpiece collection
Okay so I wasn't expecting to get this finished tonight but once I start a project I like to get it done as quick as feasibly possible.
My guys all have a proper place for display now, instead of just placed around my nerd lair...
I bought 2 Detolfs from Ikea and 1 Dioder kit; I wanted to test it out first and see if I like it as a lighting solution.
Cable management on the Detolfs is a chore but does not seem that noticeable in person or in pics...So I may get another.
So the Autobots are lit, the 'Cons have to wait...
Now I have to figure out where the heck I am going to put that huge Ark Diorama when its finished....

Thanks, I wanted to do it sooner but I had to clean up my other toys and projects before I could bring something else into the house...
I wanted to get some micro led spot lights but the only info I have found on the net shows them to be ridiculously expensive...These work just fine.
On another note I pulled the trigger on some other items for my collection, did my taxes last night and my Chevy Volt is netting me some funds in two weeks so happy 'bout that.
On order
MP Skywarp
MP Bluestreak
MP Red Alert
iGear Shark Leader (the other guys need a leader...)
Make Toys Trashtalk and Cogwheel (not MP but I like the figures)
Make Toys My First Blaster

Re: Noob Masterpiece collection
Yeah in for penny... that's me.
The Dr. Wu Engineer kit is pretty cool. The bazooka itself is a nice piece big and bulky like a bazooka...the only thing I see being a problem with it is the rubber tubing used as the cabling. It is soft rubber so it will eventually dry and crack...I assume some vacuum tubing of sufficient length and diameter would be a suitable replacement.
I haven't played around with posing him with it over his shoulder like he had in the toon right before it blew up on him. The other things it comes with are cool too; the time bomb, grenade and the welder.
His blue ear piece kit is the set that I really like though, just wish I know what to do with his original older face...

So as I sit here eating my bacon wrapped jalapenos watching the tube...the FedEx man brought another addition to my collection
wasn't expecting him today but, I am still happy to see him.
Skywarp should be here next week and the original seekers will be complete.

Hey!
Great stuff. The detolfs look nice. Is the lighting you got for them specifically designed for those shelves, or do you think it could work for other things? Been exploring LEDs, and they are not cheap. Ikea seems a logical route.
Keep up the good work.
Got anymore of those bacon wrapped jalap poppers?

Re: Noob Masterpiece collection
Thanks for taking a look! Glad you like it. The lighting is not specifically for the Detolfs. It is sold by Ikea though. I am liking it so far but I want to figur out a way to make the wires lest noticeable from the front. maybe a silver sharpie and some double sided tape to hold it in place.
I am also toying around with the below idea as well, but I would still have some cable management to worry about... http://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Rib ... o-Cabinet/
Some LEDs can be expensive but the Hitlight sets in the article aren't too bad, also Amazon has them for pretty reasonable prices.
Of course (depending on your skill/comfort level) you could also DIY it...I am thinking of a way to just make some lighting from scratch as well.

Thanks, well tax season is upon us so that is really the only reason I got this haul...I do think SW is $20 - $30 over priced since there is no stand and the Arkeville figure is lame but I would rather pay for him now instead of trying to get for what the previous mold is going for online...a mold I don't care for in the least.
