Favorite Transformers TV series
- Motto: "Guitars aren't just good for playing music; they can also be used to beat people's brains out!"
- Weapon: Semi-Automatic Rifle
I am a big TF fan, and I've seen pretty much all the TV shows that are available in America. I thought people might want to give their favorite series, why they liked it the most, and who their favorite character from that series was. I myself am a G1 fan, because to me, the original is always the best (I also like the characters and the good old 80's cartoon style), and my favorite character is Jazz. Thanks for viewing my topic, and if you have an account, PLEASE leave a reply!

It's a bit of a toss up with me. I like G1 because it's what I grew up with but not the cartoon. I was a die-hard comic fan (UK and US and preferred the UK stories to be honest due to more interesting plotlines and characterisation) as I didn't have TV when the cartoon was in it's hey day. The comic is what got me into art and, subsequently, into being an art teacher and, by extension, now studying 3D animation. It's also what got me into loving reading.
But then, as well, I really like Beast Wars. I think the stories and characterisation go above and beyond what the original G1 cartoon could ever do. The 3D animation was great for a mid-90s weekly TV show. Megatron was a bad-ass and not played as some bad-guy-leader-flunkie with one nefarious hair-brained scheme after another as tended to happen in the G1 cartoon. Also, how they gradually incorporated the original G1 continuity into the storyline really sparked with me and I couldn't get home from school quick enough (yeah, a 17 year old trying to get home to watch cartoons... sad, I know LOL).
Having said all that, I can't wait to see what they do with the new TV series and if it really is based on War for Cybertron then I think it might be a contender for me...

Armada brought me back into Transformers. I owe it that much to proclaim that it's a pretty good series. The Unicron Battles were some of the best Transformers episodes ever.

For me, G1 is my favorite because it's what got me into TFs, plus the fact that it's my all time favorite cartoon doesn't hurt either. My favorite character is Soundwave. He really made an impression on my way back in 1984.

My top 3 are:
1) Beast Machines A dark and serious show with great character-driven stories, tons of action, with deeply philosophical themes, it also the best and most frightening Megatron of any the TV shows and is a real blast to watch. The stylistic designs and the CGI still holds up pretty well even today.
IMHO this the closest any Transformers series came to being just pure sci-fi instead of being a series of 30 minute toy commercials.
2) Beast Wars- A fun, very well written series with lots of memorable dialogue, and loaded with great characters, concepts, humor, and it had plenty of twists, turns, and surprises. The CGI, in the first season especially, looks dated though.
3) Transformers it's the one that started it all. It laid the foundations while it writing and animation is hit-and-miss to say the least, it's still for the most part is simple good old fashioned fun that is still fun to watch when one is in the mood. Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are still the best voice actors who ever did Optimus Prime and Megatron.

I probably should have elaborated more back when I worte this.Sabrblade wrote:First favorite - Beast Wars: Transformers

These were the best of all the series, IMO.

I wish to do so now.
1. Beast Wars: Transformers
The first TF series I ever saw. Aside from the cliche nostalgia factor, this series had great character development, good enough humor that both kids and adults can enjoy, excellent plot-driven stories that varied from exotic and mysterious (like those involving the Vok devices) to those that were edgy and intense (like the second and third season finales). It's cast wasn't too large, meaning everyone got a fair amount of screentime and space to grow and develop. Not to mention it had, what I consider to be, the greatest Megatron of all time (he still holds this title in Beast Machines as well).
2. Transformers Animated
This show was made for the fans. In spite of its childish and cartoony appearance, there were moments where it became a very dark and edgy series, while still maintaining a few good fun and comedic moments at other times. This series contained many nods to past series, making for some great fanwank moments. Not to mention that the Decepticons were actually both powerful and competent threats, needing several Autobots working in unison just to stop one! If Beast Wars had not been made, this series would probably be the best of them all.
3. Toransufōmā: Chōjin Masutāfōsu (Transformers: Super-God Masterforce)
Probably the best of all of the Japanese Transformers series. This series had one thing more than any other: heart. It was deep, powerful, and breathtaking to experience this series. The characters in this series seemed to be the most human (and that's not just because they all were literally part human). The Decepticons were some of the baddest and most cold-hearted of them all. And the none of the human characters were annoying (mostly because they themselves were Autobot or Decepticon soldiers). It's one of those series actually makes you question the morality of Man, and shows you that, no matter how badly one has sinned, there is always a chance to find redemption.

For me, it is a constant battle between G1 and Beast Wars. G1 started it all and has some awesome characters, but so does Beast Wars and it has an ongoing plot with excellent twists and turns.
As for favorite characters:
1.) Predaking (G1): DUH!!!
2.) Dinobot (BW)
3.) Optimus Prime (G1)
4.) Blitzwing (G1)
5.) Rampage (BW)

Animated is definately my first choice, I love the shyte out of that show, even more than the movies! Animated is like the Watchmen of Transformers. Some people say it sux ass and others say its the best, and the animation may look "kiddy" at first glace, but when you get into it, its the most serious and darkest TF series out there (it may be tied with Beast Wars in terms of that though).
1.Animated- fave character: Shockwave
2.Armada- fave character: Starscream
3.G1- fave character: Soundwave
4.Beast Wars- fave character: Rampage!
And thats about it, the only things left is the rest of the Unicron trilogy, which I hate, and I havent actually watched Beast Wars since I was 3, so i cant really say which I like better. And RID and Beast Machines, and if you want to see somthing that raped your childhood and killed the franchise, then RID and Beast Machines are the places to look.

Beast Wars, Animated and Bay's movies don't look like Transformers that I grew up with. So what's your point?
And Beast Machines is the really the conclusion to the US G1 cartoon cannon.
It's set on Cybertron, uses the Key to Vector Sigma, the Plasma Energy Chamber, and the Hate Plague, and has references to Iacon, The Matrix, Optimus Prime, and Unicron in it.
So yeah, it's VERY much a Transformers series.

whawhawha what!? I always thought Beast machines was some campy, low rate-ass, childish show about Cybertron turning organic! No joke, thats honestly what I thought it was. I may have to watch it now, and stop calling it the "actual thing that killed the franchise"!

Yeah, how can you judge a show you have never watched. I watched BM and have mixed feelings on it, but I certainly would say it isn't a bad TF show and it is certainly not the worse.

Favorite? G1 by far...tied with Beast Wars.
I grew up with Beast Wars(Hmm...I feel really young now...) but after looking up some G1 episodes I really liked them.
Beast Machines WAS pretty dark...but it was also slow, and after re-seeing it(I thought it was...THE BOMB when I was littler) to me it goes against the story...how can Cybertron be organic if he's Primus? And TransFormers being organic and learning to TransForm? LAME.
I'd watch it over Energon any day though...
About Animated....I couldn't take the art style...and since when it came out I thought it was tying to the movie...I was disappointed with the 20 sided allspark and the Optimus not being the leader. So...I quit watching it. Actually I never really watched it.

Primus isn't that Cybertron. There's more than one Planet Cybertron in the Transformers multiverse. The only Cybertron that Primus has used to assume a physical body with is the Planet Cybertron from the Cybertron/Galaxy Force series. Thus far, he's never used the Beast Era Cybertron to make a body.zenosaurus_x wrote:Beast Machines WAS pretty dark...but it was also slow, and after re-seeing it(I thought it was...THE BOMB when I was littler) to me it goes against the story...how can Cybertron be organic if he's Primus?
