Does anyone know, or at least has a theory as to what the composition of Cybertron's atmosphere is?
On Earth, air is mainly composed of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon, which together constitute the major gases of our atmosphere, and I wondered if its the same composition on Cybertron.
Early Generation One episodes, Divide and conquer, Countdown to extinction and of course, Desertion of the Dinobots, tell us that Cybertron is indeed hospitable to human life without the need for encounter suits.
Its also interesting to note, that the majority of Transformers clearly have what appears to be a 'nose' structure. So I wonder whether they also need to 'breath' in the same way that we do on Earth?
So, can anyone shed any light on the subject please?

the majority of TF series show transformers surviving unaided in space, so they have no need to breath.
G1 and TFA both show humans moving around on Cybertron unsuited, other series might, too, but I can't recall at the moment.

I'll take the humans walking around unaided as something the writers didn't want to bother with. Given that Cybertron just floats through space with no Sun or definite place in the Universe, I doubt it would have had an atmosphere at all.

Actually, factor in the various TF's alt modes. Helicopter type modes have been shown flying on Cybertron, projectile weapons with chemical propellants have fired, and so on. Plus, depending on the planet's size, it would almost be impossible NOT to have an athmosphere, even if it was just composed of the various gas emissions of the TF's.

Humans have been shown walking around, as well as their hair flowing. Then again, that was from Energon, so that's probably an error.

Also in the War For Cybertron game, In chapter 8 "Too the Core"
At the end of the mission when Optimus is talking to Vector Sigma(Cybertrons Core) VS says that Cybertron will be left cold and dark while it's asleep.
Which could mean that while their is no star that the planet orbits, that it gets it's thermal energy from the core of the planet itself. So in theory the atmosphere, while probably created when the planet was formed, is probably maintained by the core as well.

Re: Atmospherics
Just to play Unicron's advocate, Beast Machines showed us Cybertron once supported organic life.
Heck, weren't the Quintessons techno-organic? Wouldn't the organic components need air, etc? According to the G1 toon and Universe comics, they ruled Cybertron for quite some time.

I don't remember the G1 episode, but Megatron brought Cybertron into Earths orbit. It seemed pretty close, but I think you could see the entire planet. Given that, I think Cybertron is smaller than Earth. Was there ever a size comparison between planets?
Catalyst Prime also makes a good point about the Core maintaining the atmosphere, which is a viable theory. With that in mind, I don't think planet size would be an issue.
Just a side note a pilot friend told me once:
"Helicopters don't really fly. The darn things are so ugly, the Earth repels them."
