The only thing that irks me is the occasions when a bot refers to themselves as transformers. It's OK on Cybertron when transformation was becoming an evolution, and bots would say "Yeah, them new transformers came into Maccadams today..."

What irks you about the lore?

I didn't like most of the "origin story" in G1 season 3 with the Quintessons being the creaters of the Transformers...Never really sat right with me...Though I DID like the notion that the autobots invented transforming technology as a way to hide from the decepticons...

I was always more a fan of the Primus / Unicron mythology from the comics...Where they are brothers and sort of the ultimate good and evil and Primus created the transformers as the guardians of his planet mode, etc...

And I REALLY like the more recent retooling by IDW...I've found that whole story line pretty thrilling and interesting in it's explanations of everything...

Primacron.

And i agree that was realy lame, Unicron is like this ultimate warrior-god in the movie, this ultimate threat, even his harmlessly floating head still fills transformers with fear throughout most of season3

and all of a sudden we find out he was created by some little creature who just happende to just complete a 'new and improved' version of him,(the electrocloud thing) like unicron was just another doomsdayweapon of the week....

and then THAT gets beaten by grimlock?

ComPLETELY anal-retentively, I can't stand how they can't seem to keep their nomenclature of time straight. Sometimes a megacycle seems to be an hour, sometimes not. It changes a lot in TFA, but it changes across continuities. Beast Wars the comic was the best about keeping stable with it, so hearts to them. Everyone else, you make-a me crazy.

I'm cool if it's not corresponding to 'earth hours', but crikey, it's irritating.

HK, if you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?

In G1, the two different origin stores for the Constructicons...were they made on Earth as stated in season 1 or what? I think what happened was they decided to do the whole Vector Sigma thing and then they needed to retcon.

I seriously can't take anymore reboots to G1. I don't mean stuff like Animated or the unicron trilogy, I mean straight out G1 timeline crap. Cartoon vs Comic, Beast Wars/machines, RID and that lot, plus the need by different companies to start everything over due to a change of rights holding.

TF's is in need of a solid DC-type Crisis. Give us a single solid timeline of events and stick to it. Of course in doing this fans will get all "Ruined Forever" if what is choosen isn't what they wanted to see, but it would seriously help to clean everything up.

If they did this then idealy whoever has the comics rights could then do miniseries representing what has happened to fully retcon elements into the new consistant timeline, we can have a proper origin for characters with multiple histories, properly resolve the primus vs quint creation issues, tie in the elements that "did" happen and get rid of stuff that didn't.

Just my short rant's worth on the matter.

I like and agree with alot of these "irks." My first irk is that (in the cartoon and maybe in the Marvel comics) the ARk crashed on Earth, sat there for 4 million years, everyone wakes up and basically nothing has changed on Cybertron. This is particularly irksome for the cartoon in which they left because of the energy shortage. AFter 4 million years, Cybertron would be dead! That's why I try to write my own story in which they only sat for no less than 40 years. And alot happens while they are gone!

Totally agree, they should refer to themselves as Transformers unless differentiating between robots who can transform and those who can't.

I agree with the irk about Quintison's building Cybertron which is why in my stories (which I can't ever seem to finish), the Quintisons simply occupied Cybertron for about 100 years.

Another irk I have is the concept of Unicron. How would a giant planet size robot come into being? I could see the Quints building him but it would take a looooooooooong time.

I think this is why I try to create my one lore that's based on the characters but not necessarily on the events. Love the characters, but some of the stuff just don't make much sense.

I wholeheartedly agree with Editor. I too am sick of the constant G1 reboot.

I was didsappointed when Dreamwave didn't continue on from the Marvel G2 comics but then I did grow to love the Dreamwave stuff. Especially since they really seemed to get the characters.

Again, I was disappointed IDW restarted the continuity again. And because they changed so much stuff, I just haven't warmed to their G1 like the others. But I do like some of their ideas.

I know I sound like a typical G1-er but that's how I feel. I do like the Universe comics because they carried on from BW/BM and even a certain BW dvd had an extra that tied BW to the Marvel comics.

Have to agree with the earlier poster on the mega-cycle/time issue. It is hard to keep track of.

I usually refer to issue 8 of the MTMTE series for the basics and terminology. I really miss Dreamwave.

What I really think is silly are Transformers with beards. I can understand Unicron and even Scourge but Alpha Trion. I just think it looks so stupid. That and Ratrrap's buckteeth.

Also not a fan of Animated's handling of the Prime/rank issue.

Or the movie Allspark, and the way it turns machines into Transformers almost magically.

Yeah, I don't like the Quint creation story, or Primacron, or Animated's demotion of Prime.

I love robot facial "hair," though. It makes about as much sense as faceplates or faces at all.

Unicron's size seems to be variable, as is Cybertron's. They seem about the size of our moon... but with giant robots living on them, you'd think they'd be bigger.

a lot of the fake body hair/personality things can be addressed since they were designed to be products for some other race. The fake beards/moustaches are intentional decoration. Also remember that the comics established that Transformers are highly imitative and adapt to new environments and cultures readily, especially since their own (if they have any, which is arguable depending on the form of canon you are going with) was destroyed by millenia of war.

You know that has never bothered me.

They say Transformers like we say person. For them to say "That new Cybertronion..." would be the same as us saying "That new Human..." or "That new Terran..."

What irked me is that they couldn't take their sweet time in creating an entire backstory to the Transformers that is consistent in both the comics and the cartoons.

I never did liked the Quintessons being the "creators" of the Transformers race. I didn't mind them in the '86 movie, but I absolutely hated them in season 3 of G1.

I absolutely favor the Unicron/Primus mythos.

Oh and you know what else?

When Transformers are completely deaf.

Whenever you have a Transformer being stealthy, they sneak around going CLANK CLANK CLANK. Now, bad enough they make THAT much noise while being quiet, worse still, they're not heard! Even when they're right behind another Transformer!

In that one Beast Wars episode, Double Jeopardy? Rattrap sneaking around the Pred base, watches two preds walk away from a computer from high above, then LEAPS down and lands with a VERY loud clang, and NOBODY hears him.

It happens at least once in ever series, I'm sure.

the whole scale/size issues.... a bot transforming into a car is the same size a bot transforming into an f15 in robot mode?

double origins of the constructicons.... that was just plain lazy from the writers...

what the hell did shockwave do on cybertron for 4 miljon years? play with himself? (pun intended, remember the scene where he's holding a miniature version of him :mrgreen:

Nemesis Breaker never transformed into Robot Mode outside of stock footage. I found that odd, considering that Hasbro/Takara would have probably been eager to advertise a transforming toy so that people would buy it.

But no... he just remains in liger mode and... combines with Megatron, and then when Megatron becomes Galvatron, he vanishes. Huh?

All jokes aside.. As others have pointed out, the Quints creating Cybertron and the Transformers race bothers me alot.. I much prefer the Marvel comics origin, just seems to sit more naturally with me.
