I am curious, what has become of Skyfire in seasons 3 and 4? How come his involvement with the autobots is absent by the end of season 2? Is he mentioned or alluded to in the Japanese Magazines?

Honestly, the whole Jetfire/Skyfire thing is rather murky; you can check the article on TFWiki for the gory details, but basically he disappeared after season two in the US and only showed up once in Headmasters in Japan, probably due to legal issues and declining sales.

Lots of characters disappeared after the movie. Not just characters that were shown to have been killed. You aren't actually expecting continuity and logical sequences of events are you? They just wanted to get rid of the old toys and bring in loads of new ones.
