Take your XBox to the store with a copy of Guitar hero 2 (and I'm completely f'n serious).
Play it with the lag test on.
Find out if the TV can adequately play the system.
Game lag is a silent curse.
Anymore than 1 frame of lag and forget it. Don't buy the TV.

Agreed try and get a tv with as low a refresh time(10ms or less) and as high a contrast ratio as possible.
At the size your looking for you'll probably be better with a plasma unless your a heavy gamer as a plasma will get burn in quicker than an lcd, but has higher contrast ratios at the moment giving it a clearer more vibrant picture. If you do opt for a plasma don't play for prolonged amounts of time in the first 6 months as it increases the chances of burn in occurring.
BTW those Polaroid tvs aren't too bad, the only negative thing I can really say about them is that the sound is pretty poor but should be sufficient. My friend has the 32" model and hasn't had a problem and got around the poor sound by using a hifi.

What would you consider a prolonged amount of time?I changed my mind and didnt get the Polaroid I bought a Samsung 50" Plasma.

Try to keep your sessions below 2 hours initially, take a break and put the tv on a channel with a lot of on screen movement or leave it on the white wash setting to remove any persistant images for about 10-15 minutes. Thats the problem with plasmas compared to lcds they need to be broken in or static images, eg health bars or any HUD can leave a permenant image on the screen.

I have done a pretty massive amount of research when it comes to LCD TVs for gaming on a budget, and when it comes down to the line I narrowed it down to 3 TVs that provide the real bang for the buck. The 46 inch Magnavox 1080P ($1600) is a beautiful set for under 2G, the 42 inch Sharp Aquos ($1500) is another set (with a little better clarity) that looks great under 2G, and the crown jewel if you have the money is the 46 inch 1080P Sony Bravia. It costs a little more, (about $2200) but you know where that money went when you watch it. It's like looking out a window. I have encountered zero lag time when it comes to gaming. I have my Wii and 360 on the Sony Bravia, the PS3 on the Sharp, and everything else (older systems) on the Magnavox. Real gamers need real TVs. I can 100% attest to the greatness of these units.

I am about to pick up a 65 inch 1080P Toshiba DLP Projection TV (1500) at best buy for movies. I was pretty much against all projection TVs until I became informed of the DLP technology. It is some crazy stuff. You can go way bigger for a ton less than the LCDs of similar size, and the richness of the color surpasses the capabilities of LCD.
