i making my way to work after a quick stop at walmart where i found my first AOE deluxe (stealth?) bumblebee. being today is the actual street date for these guys i didnt think there would be an issue, but it would not scan. after some debate and talking to a couple managers, they told me he was recalled and couldnt sell it. i quickly googled to see if anyone else has encountered this and found nothing.
needless to say, im pretty grumpy.

I could be wrong but I believe that the street date is this Saturday for store sales and today is online only.
Personally I'd have tried using the in-store pickup option on the website, assuming Walmart.com does that.

I don't think it was recalled; I think they're just not supposed to sell it yet.
Today is CYBERtron Monday; it's an online launch. The "street date" for in-store sales is May 17.

"Recalled" is the blanket excuse Walmart gives when stuff gets out before it's supposed to. They used that line on me with RotF toys way back when. Not a big deal, this stuff will be all over everywhere on Saturday.

this is what i assumed. and yeah... it might be silly to get mad about it as theres never any shortage of movie BB's, but it was in my hands... and i couldnt have it. and after the fact i thought it might be only an online release date as others have pointed out.ScottyP wrote:"Recalled" is the blanket excuse Walmart gives when stuff gets out before it's supposed to. that situation is classicly something i would have gotten visibly and vocally heated about, but i actually kept my cool. it was surprisingly the staff that was heated and upset towards me. and all i was looking for was a "why". i was dealing with attitude the moment it got rung in for some reason.

By law they can't put anything on shelves unless they intend to sell it. I've recently started dealing with broken street dates on shelves by threatening an attorney general complaint if they don't sell what was put on the shelves for sale.
It may sound nasty when its worded like that, but its pretty straight forward and gets the sale cause retailers do not like dealing with those complaints.

It's true. You see them put down a boxcutter or price-scanner for a second, it's YOURS.

I'm sure they would sell it to you if you pressured them. Of course, they get to ring it up for whatever price they want since it didn't have a price marked on it on the shelf, so be prepared to pay a cool quarter mil for that boxcutter.

Re: AOE Bumblebee Recalled??
Personally I don't think it's right to put stuff out on display and not have it for sale. I can understand this for "Display Only" items, as they're intended to show you what you're going to get.
And in some cases, stores are sometimes willing to sell the display at a reduced price if it is the only one in the store. However, if you grabbed a bumblebee that was on a peg with a price tag on that peg, IMO< that's wrong. I know the street dates and respect them, but that also means the store should also respect said street date and not put the item out.
Not unless they're going to put out say, 1 of each figure with no price tags, and an obvious sign around them saying, "Available May 17th!" or "Coming Soon".
But that's just my opinion. I used to own a store, and imo, that's something you would do to treat your customer right and take care of them.
