Go big or go home.
Seriously, though, I don't own either, but have seen them through the package, and they don't look much different from each other, so you might as well get the bigger figure, especially if you have a Leader Optimus. Though I would think Grimmy would scale better with Voyager Prime, but there's no voyager Prime in his new alt mode. Maybe you can YouTube up some reviews?

I have the same basic question, but with Voyager Grimlock being repainted and placed into multi-packs, you can't get around him without missing out on other figures you may like to get. Leader Grimlock does look imposing, but the proportion of the T-Rex leave something to be desired, and if you lose his weapons he's useless as they form the tail.

Re: Voyager or leader Grimlock?
I think the Voyager is the winner. At least in alt mode it looks proportioned well enough. The Leader class looks like ass in alt mode.
Both however look good to me in bot mode.
I've seen many in stores and passed every time. I'm not interested in either but if I were to choose I'd probably go voyager. Also, as said before, it's also pretty early in the line and maybe wait for an affordable repaint of either mold for a better looking colour scheme.

I had trouble with this choose too. At first I had the voyager which looked great in and on the box but once I got him out of the package he felt really cheap to me. Also, the things that I hated the most about were the super skinny abdomen (which is as wide as one of his legs), the mace was a joke, and the chomping gimmick ruined it for me.
So I went back and returned and got the leader. Yes the leaders dino mode is awkwardly proportioned but pictures and videos make it look MUCH worse than how it is in hand. The chrome doesn't look too bad in bot mode but does look a little weird in dino mode. The leaders mace looks better because it can be held right. Plus reviews make the leader look like the articulation in the arms sucks but its not bad.
From someone that was had both molds, go for the leader. It blows that awful voyager away.

I'd got the voyager. The leader's Dino mode is truly awful. I also find the voyager scales better with the other Dino's in both modes, while the leader only really scales with itself.

Nope. I love like the leaders dino mode a lot more. The gimmick on the voyager kills the figure.

You guys are crazy......CRAZY! I find it impossible to believe anybody to say the dino mode in leader class to be satisfactory for Grimlock.

It's not perfect by any means but IMO its better than the voyager. If it didn't have the chomping gimmick I would like the voyagers dino mode more but overall I HATE the voyagers robot mode, again thanks to the chomping gimmick putting kibble on his back. With how much better the leaders robot is I can handle the dino mode, which looks A LOT better in person.
Reviews and pics don't do it justice at all.
Also, what can I say, I'm a sucker for chrome

For me, it's different. I don't mind the chomping gimmick, it's the fact that there's nothing good to do with the mace that's the biggerst thing for me. You can put it on the tail where it looks ridiculous, or you can set it aside and risk losing it. With the Leader version, the mace becomes the tail. I like having the weapon be part of the toy more than I like it just being something you put on it.

So far, the voyager mold wins for me. The main reason being scale with the rest of the Dinobots. Leader Grimlock absolutely TOWERS over the deluxe dinos. Voyager Grimlock is fairly tall in robot mode anyway, and looks good next to the other voyager figures, including HFTD Optimus Prime. However, I'm interested to see just how big robot mode Grimlock compares to the rest of the cast in the new movie. Also, I'd love to see a voyager version of Optimus' new design. The leader version is just too big for my collection.

Thanks people. I was not aware of an intrusive gimmick on the voyager, I'll look up some reviews. I can't say I dislike the voyagers robotmode, though. It's just that the leader looks better... And scales less well with the other dinos.

IMO, it's not that intrusive of a gimmick on the voyager figure. There's a button used for alt mode to make his jaws chomp, but it's a complete non-issue in robot mode.

I've seen the Voyager in person and the size kills it for me. I like the skirt armor in robot mode, and I like the paint apps, but it's just too small for me. I went with the Leader Class and I don't regret it. He's a pretty solid figure. The transformation is a bit of a pain and the beast mode is a bit off, but his robot mode looks great (IMO) and he handles his weapons better.
My vote is Leader Class.

Get... both?
It really depends on what's important to you: robot mode, dino mode, scale, or a combination of those things.
I personally find Leader Grimlock's robot mode to be the best. Voyager Grimlock scales the best with the deluxe dinobots (bot not necessarily Optimus; Grimmy towers over OP in the movie). Dino modes on both are meh, in my opinion.

Here's another factor I've started to consider: size vs. rank. Obviously the leaders get the biggest toys, so were all the Dinobots Deluxes, the Voyager would do just fine with Grimlock, but then in comes Slog, the Voyager Brachiosaurus. Grimlock needs to be bigger than the rest, it's an unwritten rule, so in comes Leader Grimlock.

Smearing G1 on the thread, IIRC Sludge was bigger than Grimlock. (At least a bronto is bigger than a T. Rex)

"Leaders get the biggest toys" isn't really true, though. Especially post-G1. BW Rampage is bigger than Transmetal Megatron, Tidal Wave is bigger than Armada Megatron, and Beast Machines Cheetor's figures were almost always bigger than the corresponding figure of Optimus Primal. And there's plenty of teams where all the members are around the same size.
If you WANT the leader to be bigger than everyone else, that's one thing, but if you just think he HAS to be, maybe this will help.
