Shiny Ratchet
How common is this guy? If I send my Dad to look for him in the US, is he likely to see him, and does he look different enough to be recognisable? Will he make me want to throw up less?

Um, not really sure what you're asking here. If you mean the green movie deco of Ratchet he's on general release and should be fairly common in the States. From the 'throw up less' comment I can only assume that you don't like the green deco and mean the G1 style white and red repaint. If so he's I believe going to be a store exclusive (Walmart?) although I'm not 100%. The redeco shouldn't be out at retail yet, although some of the Hong Kong traders on ebay have had them for the last few weeks so it shouldn't be too long before he's out. Hope that helps, but your question could really have been phrased a lot better.

No, I mean the shiny version of movie Ratchet. The Geewun repaint doesn't do it for me - they're using horrid translucent plastics like Hasbro have an annoying habit of doing. i actually kind of like Movie Ratchet as is (but not as Ratchet) and like that mould. However, I despise the normal colour, and there is a revision that has a metallic sheen. I'm not sure if it's any better or in any way easy to find, which is why I'm asking.

Oh, ok. I haven't heard anything about a metallic version. Sorry that I couldn't be of assistance on this one.

If you mean the one that was on E-Bay a while back, no news of him since. And since BotCon's already happened and he wasn't there, he's probably not coming out 'til next year or that was a prototype and will never come out at all.

he may just be a variant, Hasbro makes them without showing them off at Botcon.
Remember all the different variants for the "Bendy" Prime repaint in Cybertron? None of those were ever showcased "officialy"...

But in the movie days, it looks like such "variants" are usually showcased and highly advertised, such as "Robovision" Prime. Maybe this guy'll be Robovision Ratchet.

I thought that at first too, but than you see the main beam, the one that's made of I think green plastic on the bottom in car mode, is molded in a different color plastic, black I think.

For the time being, the only Ratchet out with two different color variations is the Legends figure.
The metallic-color (and slightly less glaring) Ratchet's not out yet, and might be a future exclusive. No plans for release at the moment.

Cant see them releasing a "shiny" version of ratchet in the same kind of colour as the original, not different enough to generate enough sales.
Also Metallic paint is a bit more expensive than regular paint is it not? For that reason alone, I doubt Hasbro would paint a regular general released figure in metallic paint.
However I would be somewhat interested in a metallic variant of Ratchet in the future, even if it were based of a different character (since we know G1 Ratchet wont be metallic) Trailbreaker perhaps?

hmmm i remember reading and seeing pictures too of this version. the paint apps seemed more consistent with the entire figure unlike how most have lighter green paint apps to match the green plastic and i know the back beam was molded black instead of light green.
