One of the toys available as part of the Botcon 2007 "Games of Deception" package was Dreadwind, a repaint/remold of Classics Jetfire. In anticipation of the upcoming gallery of this figure, our very own Seibertron has posted over 350 images of Takara version of their Generation One progenitors: the Destron Godmasters from Masterforce ... Buster (Buster's Transector) and Hydra (Hydra's Transector). The Transectors of the Destron Godmaster brothers, Buster and Hydra, merge into the Destron Superjet known as Darkwings.
Hasbro released these figures in 1988 as Powermasters known as Dreadwind and Darkwing whose Nebulan partners, Hi-Test and Throttle, respectively transformed into their Powermaster engines. The combined form of Darkwing and Dreadwind was called Dreadwing, who would later be rebuilt as a stealth bomber under Megatron's rule in Marvel Comics' Transformers: Generation 2 series. Galleries of the Hasbro versions of these figures will be released later this week right here on Seibertron.com.
Once you are done checking out these galleries, do not forget to check out the rest of the galleries in the Seibertron.com's Toy Galleries in the Seibertron.com Toy Section.

Hey Darth Bombshell,
I updated your story to be about the Japanese versions of these figures instead of the U.S. versions. I saved your story so that I can use it for when I launch the U.S. versions later this week. There's a lot of differences between the two sets from Takara and Hasbro.
Thanks for posting this though. I'll give you credit when I post the news story for the Hasbro Dreadwing set.

I hope that I rewrote the above stuff about the Godmasters correctly. Even though I have watched, read and absorbed a ton of stuff about Masterforce over the past decade, I still do not think I fully understand the whole Transector thing. Basically, I get the impression that we truly do not know the names of the Transectors. If the human's name is Ginrai, then obviously the robot's name isn't truly Ginrai, is it? We simply don't know what the robot names are since they're just "Transectors" which aren't sentient in the series without their Headmaster Junior or Godmaster partners until the end of the series where they do gain sentience.
If I wrote the above correctly, then I guess I do understand it. If I wrote something above incorrectly, please correct me and let us know how the above text for this news story should be written.

Here's how I can help out. Headmasters toy line still had seperate names for the robot and its partner, which was ignored in the cartoon in favor of the simpler "larger lifeless" body. The name of the larger TF is the name of the smaller robot in that case. The next series Masterforce had that both in toy line and cartoon.
An exception is Doubleclouder (Doubledealer): his actual name is Clouder, for both engines, since in the cartoon he has two suits instead of one.

I do like the galleries. Great to see some rare G1 characters added. Points for you.
Maybe Buster and Hydra should have their own entries in the VSD, since they are completely different characters from Dreadwind and Darkwing and are different colors - they have nothing more to go with each other than Bumblebee and Glyph. I can get you translated writeups.

There are some major changes coming down the pipes regarding VSD that will accommodate situations like the Dreadwing Powermasters and the Darkwings Godmasters.

There are? The only difference I know is toy-wise, the Japanese versions are red where the US versions are teal. Character-wise, I guess they're very different as I've never heard on this Transector thing. All I know is Dreadwind is a gloomy goth and Darkwing is the kind of psycho that likes to hurt kittens.

How does that work with Overlord? He's the only other Godmaster that had two engines and I'd assume that the same sort of back story wouldn't fit. I really need to get around to picking up the Headmasters, Masterforce and Victory box sets.

Well, I guess "a lot" is probably not the proper phrase. There are "several" differences, probably is. The teal is swapped with red on both figures and the engines are different colors as well as sporting chrome similar to Hi-Q/Ginrai.

I think as far as the VSD is concerned, they have different tech specs. so they should have 2 entries. They have different colors, different names, and different stories. They are no more the same character than Minerva and Nightbeat.

As I mentioned above, there are some major changes in the works with VSD that will accommodate this scenario for figures like the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors.

Ratchet and Ironhide galleries tonight. I'm still tying up the loose ends to the BotCon exclusive figures. I still have to take pictures of Springer, Alpha Trion, Dreadwind and Weirdwolf in robot mode yet and then comparison pics and group shots of all of the BotCon 2007 exclusives and Classics together. Once I'm done with that, I'll be work on posting the BotCon 2007 galleries on the site. Hopefully no later than this weekend but we'll see.
In the meantime, Ratchet and Ironhide tonight and possibly G1 Ramjet, Dirge and Thrust tomorrow night or Friday morning.
