A friend of mine called me up asking about where to place the stickers on his new Soundwave figure...

Of course, I linked him to the Reprolabels Sticker Map, but then noticed that the stickers I've always associated with "speakers" (the red & black ones)

were in a different spot on the reissued figure...
On the reissued figure, those two stickers are placed onto the BATTERIES...

Was there an error early on (in the early 80's) by some artist who put them in the wrong place, or was it a change made when the reissued figure came out a few years back?

I think they were originally intended to go on the batteries, as the original Japanese toy (Microman, I think?) was supposed to be a walkman, and came with fake earbuds to complete the set. The later Transformers releases didn't have all the accessories, so they placed the stickers on the legs to make 'speakers', turning him into a boombox. For recent reissues, they've placed them in the original spots.

Thanks for the info guys. I picked up Soundwave a couple weeks ago and wondered where the hell to place the stickers as there was no instructions included. I thought maybe it was just my Soundwave missing them.
