All the news lately about the masive recall on Mattell toys due to lead paint got me thinking. What would you due in the event of a massive transformers recall due to a similar health risk?

Personally I only touch my figures when I feel like transforming or rearranging them but if it was serious would you be willing to part with that 08 Bumblebee or Titanium Ultra Magnus you searched so hard for?

I guess its a pointless question but I just wondered if anyone here would ever or has ever parted with a figure for a similar reason.

I read that it is pretty common in China for the head of a company who did illegal things to commit suicide. It is probably better than being incarcerated in China's penal system.

I would however move any figures that had a recall far out of the reach of any of my younger relatives, perhaps even pack them away.

The Original Five Lion Team contained lead paint. Nothing to really worry about so long as you could avoid chewing on shiny things growing up.

But honestly, given the list of side effects:
The symptoms of chronic lead poisoning include neurological problems, such as reduced cognitive abilities, or nausea, abdominal pain, irritability, insomnia, metal taste in oral cavity, excess lethargy or hyperactivity, headache and, in extreme cases, seizure and coma.
You could probably find any one of these "symptoms" in the majority of kids today. Lead's just been replaced by too much television and a lack of physical activity.

Seriously though, lead poisoning mostly affects kids because they have developing nervous systems and their skin easily absorbs the lead. It was on the news today and they had a doc explaining it. As for the factory owner hanging himself, the consequences are very steep over there in china. But hey, natural selection right? lol

I think adult collectors will be just fine with pieces having lead paint. None of us are stupid enough to ingest any part of the figure(s).

I doubt lead absorption through the skin (as little as it happens) would lead to as many problems as people think.

No, if there was ever a recall, I'd be content keeping them as is.

Hmm....I dunno. That's a hard call....collectibility vs safety.....

.....well, considering I still have my Brave Max, & did so because safety regulations (read:drop test failure) wouldn't allow him to be produced for sale in the US....not to mention my G1 Megs as well as my now unplugged Masterpiece Megs......yeah, I'd probably keep them, unless the whole skin absorbtion thing is a real big deal. Never had a problem with putting toys in my mouth when I was a kid, but I do still every once in a while still look for that new Prime smell.

Not necessarily. It also depends on demand. Look at the botcon sets. You can still get the Decent into Evil set at the club store for its retail price. The classic seeker one they just put out.....heh if you didn't preorder it before botcon good luck trying to get one now for under twice what it's worth. I heard Thundercracker alone sells on Ebay for more than the whole set costs.

Keep, definitely. There should be more dangerous toys about; none of this shortened-smokestack, weakened missile launcher, non-toxic paint crap. We had dangerous toys as kids; I had a Dinky spacefighter with a missile that'd take your eye out if you weren't careful; my friend had a Batmobile with the same. You know what? We learned to be careful.
These kids today are coddled too much...
