Masterpiece Transformers, are they only good for the Ark?

Masterpiece Transformers, are they only good for the Ark?

Postby skywarp-2 » Mon Sep 10, 2007 8:44 am

Ok, well I have voiced on Numerous occasions that I'd love to see a "Movie" Masterpiece Line up concieved by Takara Tomy. Most People have disagreed with me on that and most would prefer that the Masterpiece line up strictly consist of Generation One Transformers...

I respect that, and truth be told, I wouldn't want them to ever stop making Masterpiece Transformers of my favorites from Generation one..

So from What we have already recieved from the line up and what may come out down the road, I want to hear your thoughts on this subject...Should the Masterpiece line include bots from Generation one that came into the series after the Ark, or are we destined to only get the first "Ark" bots as a release?

Let's pan out who was on the ark first shall we...

Autobots: Optimus Prime, Rathcet, Ironhide, Bumblebee, Bluestreak, prowl, Jazz, cliff jumper, Hound, Hauler aka Grapple (which was odd because grapple was orange, and in the 1st G-1 Episode Hauler was Grapple's colors??) Wheeljack and Brawn

Decepticons: Megatron, Starscream, Skywarp ( he was the first Transformer to reawaken in the Ark!!) Thundercracker, Soundwave With Rumble Ravage and Lazerbeak, and Reflector..

Given the odds, and the fact that there were less Decepticons, it could be that Takara wants to sell the most popular upfront.. but if you consider how many Autobots there are, and the potential for some to not sell out as with the Decepticons, you'd think we would have gotten more Masterpiece Autobots up front..

Now let's say they didn't go with the "Ark" theory as far as releases.. then what? Should the Dinobots be next, what of Rodimus Prime and Galvatron??

Is the Masterpiece line up going to only consist of the most Popular Bots? What does that mean for a Masterpiece Masterforce, or Victory toys?

Would Beast Wars be considered part of the G-1 Universe? Your speculations and experience on this subject are welcome, and your preferences as well..but as it stands, so far we have only recieved bots from the "Ark" not counting the Token Ultra Magnus/Prime repaint..

I'd guess Takara/Hasbro will go with moulds they think will sell well, especially if they offer the chance of a repaint that will sell well. Wouldn't surpise me, on that basis, to see MP Prowl.

Motto: "Don't do drugs, beer's cheaper anyway!"
I think they will include the most popular TFs from G1, meaning the US contunaty, Takara contunaty, Beast Wars and brrrrrrrr Beast Mashines (puke).
They would go only with the most popular ones cos the figures are prcy and they wouldn't expect unloved bots to sell for the MP price.

And Personaly I would prefer Movie non transforming masterpices, in the MP scale and with the same articulation and detailing as the Movie renderings.

Considering how well MP Prime fits in with the Alt/Binal lines and how unprofitable the those lines where I seriously doubt we re gonna see an abundance of Car bots in the MP line.

So what will we see? Defiantly toys which the molds can be modified easily-so lot sof recolours, and i wouldnt be surprised if we got Mp Coneheads.

On the bot side of things, i dont know, maybe well get Jetfire-he is pretty iconic, although he lacks the reusablity of some other molds....but then again so does megatron.

So with that in mind, maybe we will get a number of remolds to match the number of unique molds.

So megs + seekers + Coneheads = Prime(s) + Magnus + some unique stuff

I agree about the cars. I think the Alt/Bio lines are really there for that. I'd be suprised to see the conehead seekers although I could be wrong. Dinobots, at least Grimlock, could and will hopefully happen. Other than that, god, who know. It's all about what will sell. I'd like to see something really different, like Insecticons. And definitely Soundwave.

I really think it could be Ironhide/Ratchet. They'll probably end up im the MP line or Classics/Universe

I think it's going to come down to the most important factor: profit margin. You're only going to see MP releases of characters that are guaranteed to sell well and have the possibility of being reissued as repaints. The exceptions to the repaint rule are Grimlock and Megatron.

I'd expect pretty much any other future MP release to have at least one repaint even if it requries minor mold changes. So Bumblebee/Cliffjumper, Ironhide/Ratchet, Soundwave/Soundblaster, Coneheads, etc. This isn't to say I wouldn't like to see them branch out the MP line a bit but I don't see it being very realistic.

How many of you would spring for (god help us)...
a Masterpiece Fort Max?

As a rule, I avoid autobots, but to have something
of that scale and magnificence would be well worth
the price and violation of my personal rule.

Too much, realistically, I'm afraid. It's a nice pipe dream,
though.

I can see, after the 'G1 Run', a few Beast Wars being given
a bit of the MP treatment.

I expect to see some of the larger bots and cons. Like Ironhide, Ratchet, Warpath etc.

tfs with larger alt modes.

But personally I want a MP Shockwave. That would rock all kinds of socks 8)

I think they will stick to the most popular G1 characters (and suitable repaints of) and avoid characters they have already adequately covered in BT/Kiss Players. so that will be the likes of Grimlock, Soundwave, Jetfire and so on. I don't see the line going much past double figure TBH.

If Grimlock is made as rumored, we've officially broken the Ark theory, because in the comic they didn't come on the ship and in the TV show they were made by Wheeljack and Ratchet on Earth.

MP's are soooo expensive in relation to other Transformers that whatever they do has to appeal to the collector rather than to kids. The collector, right now at least, is focused on G1 and the current hotness (which happens to be the movie, but it will move on to Animated once the show comes out).

Blood? You'd need to sell more than that for an MP Fort Max, especially if it scaled with MP Prime.

And I'd buy MP Prowl, Sideswipe, etc. The Alts were nice, but I'd love their G1 forms duplicated.

I thought that the comics stated they DID come on the ark, but were rebuilt early to defend against Shockwave.

Yes and then they were trapped in tar.

I would like to see a triple changer or even Sixshot.
I would also like a trailer for Magnus.

Although Moving away from the original G1 show would be cool.

Maybe, I'd have to go back and re-read...I thought they came earlier and came to the Ark to defend.

As I recall, Shockwave saw the Ark crash on Earth and decided to go for a closer look. The Ark's computer detected this and used the last of it's energy to reactivate five Autobots. As the Ark crashlanded in the Savage Lands, it mistakenly assumed dinosaurs were the dominant lifeform, and adapted the five to have dinosaur alt modes.

And people wonder why I think the comics are a load of pish.

With the 'Dinobots on the Ark' question as regards comics, it depends on which comics. In the Marvel run they were as was covered above. In Dreamwave's continuity they came seperately to battle the Insecticons (this would have been covered in a mini-series if the company hadn't gone under, but was vaguely refferenced in the main G1 books a couple of times). In the IDW books they tracked Shockwave to Earth and took on organic dinosaur forms to protect themselves from the energon rich atmosphere (a la Beast Wars).

One clue might be Takara Tomy's official G1 website. Under the toys heading, there's a link to the "official" Masterpiece page.

And, under the "characters" link, we get this:

http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/TF ... index.html

Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Jazz, Scorponok, Ironhide, Ratchet, Soundwave, Bumblebee. My guess is that this might end up being the complete MP line when all is said and done.

Damn. No Galvatron, Rodimus Prime, or Grimlock.

That page isn't specifically connected to the MP page. You can access it from any page.

The Masterpiece link only shows the current releases. I had thought that characters link refers more to the possible upcoming Encore releases, not MP.
