It is maddening how badly I want this toy, and how badly I've wanted it since I started collecting again back in the late 90s.

I just have one question... why the hell did he yellow so badly? :P

Skyfire is only the name they used in the cartoon, Jetfire is the actual name of the toy.
To be honest, I'm not even sure keeping out of the sun is enough to avoid yellowing; mine was never exactly a outdoorsy type, but he's still got something of a tan...

Theres alot of elements involved in the yellowing of a white toy.. Smoking , dusting , light exposure , and most of all simple aging wear. Still a sweet toy yellowed or not!! IMO

I dont know what it is about white or cream plastic that makes it yellow. Maybe all plastic is effected in the same way but you dont notice it so much with plastic that has a strong colour pigment. I know my old Amiga isn't the same colour it was when I bought it way back when.

given the age of G1 Jetfire/Skyfire, it is inevitable that yellowing will occur. i guess its the plastic composition. there were some threads here trying to deal with the yellowing, with lots of suggestions, maybe you can dig it up and hope that some of the suggestions there can help.

The funny thing is, he was a toy design, *ahem*, borrowed from another Japenese toy line, MACROSS (which F'n rox!). The funny thing is, most of the old Macross toys, didn't have the same yellowing problem. Sure all plastic will trun yellow and brittle with time, but the orig company's toys stood the test of time longer and better. i just get a kick out of that.

The toy and the character in the G1 comic book was called Jetfire......the character on the toon was called Skyfire.

I think its cause of the dye used in the moulding fase. One of the biggest reasons that JF yellows so much is air.If it could be stored in a airless display case it wouldnt yellow as much.
