Character Names Differ?

Postby BlackOut2K8 » Sat Oct 20, 2007 7:42 pm

Ok this is weird, I seen the dvd of the Transformers again just to check out some things that may or may not seem out of place but I did catch something out of place. Of course 'Devastator' the big-ass Decepticon tank isn't called Devastator in his toy line, his name is Brawl, like the original Brawl of course is a tank similar to his movie counter-part besides the missile launchers and cow-catcher. The movie calls him Devastator, but then the toy line calls him Brawl, what the freak? I can see that Bonecrusher was there as a mine sweeper instead of a bulldozer and Devastator as a tank instead of a combiner, but what's with the name change in his toy line?

I'm pretty sure this has been beaten about to death(and probably should be in the Movie forum). Oh well.

Devastator was the working name of the tank Transformer while they were shooting because names had not been finalized. The name was officially changed to Brawl, as reflected in the toy line. However, for what ever reason, the post-production crew(or whoever did the subtitles) didn't get the memo.

Now why they didn't correct it in the DVD...I can only assume they didn't bother since Brawl/Devastator has 0 lines in the movie and his name is only mentioned that once.

Hope that's somewhat helpful. :)

Yes. It looks pretty cool, though I'm not sure how good combiners would function in the movie universe.

Actually, Brawls name was originally going to be Devastator BUT before that he was going to be called Mr. Snuggles. But somehow Bay didn't like how it sounded..Mr. Snuggles..TERRORIZE. So it went to Brawl/Devastator. True Story. =O

I heard he dosnt like the idea of combiners so it was his way of making sure that at least in any of the films that he'll do there wont be a Devastator.

Of course, why not make sure not to use one of the favorite sub-gimmicks in the the TF line-- combination--.

Its diabolyical :P But you have to admit its a logical way to ensure not HAVING to use the team in any of his movies.
