Question about trademarks: Alternators Meister and Mirage

Postby Mulla » Thu Mar 22, 2007 5:54 am

Ok, this has been on my mind for a while.

We all know Jazz couldn't even be called Autobot Jazz and had to be named Meister because of trademark issues, because of the Honda model Jazz so on and so forth. Well, to my best recollection.

Anyways, if he had to be called Meister because a different brand had a car of the same name, why is Mirage allowed to retain his name, despite Mitsubishi having a car of the same name?

What follows is an entensive legal explanation on how trademarks and copyrights work.

You pay a bunch of guys a thousand dollars an hour and they tell you what you can and can't do.

The end.

(I answer to Ag or Ags. Agamemnon is too long to type. Plus, there is something elemental about calling me Ag. :-D )

Exactly. Trademarks and copyrights are complicated issues. There are lawyers who make a living on translating the laws and writing Trademark and copyright contracts.

I believe that Trademarks have geographical limits as well as time lengths.

Perhaps it was Mazda that didn't want their character named after another manufacturer's car.
