The plate his head is on does wobble a bit if you shake him but it's not so bad that he won't hold whatever head pose you want. The spring is rather powerful and releases with a solid twang and it's a bit fiddly getting it in the hole and covered but I'm not worried it'll ever break loose. I've had him in alt mode for long periods (didn't he come boxed in alt mode?) with no trouble. So I think you're just worrying too much. I think he's pretty sturdy.
Well, you're quite right with him being packaged in alt-mode, perhaps I am worrying too much about how strong his head-concealing tab is.
Still, I don't really like Soundwave's bobblehead feature - turning his head in any direction causes the plate holding it to easily wobble and shift to a new angle due to the change in center of gravity, so I get peeved with having to pose his head in a certain angle only to have it bob in another slightly-different-but-completely-unintended angle. When I want Soundwave to look down upon the shelf, I don't want him to go looking down and a little to the left/right. Ah well, nothing a bit of fiddling can't fix.
That aside, thanks for the reassurance!
