The blog of Transformers collector tf-tf has been updated, and with that he shares with us images of his venture into the Transformers Museum in Kyoto. Not only that, but he was able to snag an Animated Black Convoy! Check out some of the packaging images of Black Convoy and some pictures from the event below.

nice work but the Autobot logo not even "scratched"? then again i can't understand japanese so i don't know the story of this toy. this IS a black Convoy, right? :???:

Most Black Convoys are actually good guys in Japan. I don't know enough details to go into it, but that's basically it.

Lovely toy, but I'll never be able to own it. It's okay, I have rules regarding which Primes/Nemesis Primes I buy.

You need to be a bit careful with nomenclature here, as not all black Convoys or Primes are Nemesis Primes or evil clones. Look at the list:

Evil Clones
Black Lioconvoy
Car Robots Black Convoy / RiD Scourge)
Micron Legend Scourge / Armada Nemesis Prime
BT Black Convoy / Alternator Nemesis Prime
Universe Nemesis Prime
Universe 2.0 Nemesis Prime

Black Versions
JAFCon Convoy
Nucleon Quest Super Convoy
Hybrid Style G1 Convoy Black Version
Masterpiece Convoy Black Version
Alternity Convoy Super Black (who was repurposed as a reformed Universe Nemesis Prime)
Animated Optimus Prime Black Version.

From these examples, it's standard practice to name Evil Clones "Black (name)" and black versions, well, "(name) Black Version". I should add that the Japanese love black repaints, and it's not limited to Transformers. Look at Super Sentai too, even that had some of their mecha repainted in black.

Nowadays it's just same character, only in black, as they hate repaints as new characters. Look at what happened in Energon

More like with the characters:

US Landquake = new character
JP Landquake (anime only) = Powered up Landmine

US Beachcomber = new character
JP Beachcomber = Powered up Cliffjumper/Overdrive

Armada Thundercracker was made into Starscream for the same reason.

I see. Weird, I feel the opposite, I'd buy a repaint if it's a new character. Any particular reason Japanese fans would disagree? I guess they are all about the power-ups over there.
