We take an interest in toys and buy Transformers to make ourselves happy, but it’s hard to be happy. More accurately, it is hard for some of us to stay happy. While some collectors are perfectly fine collecting whatever they come across that they like without any grand scheme in mind, others prefer to identify and chase ‘grails’ or subject their collecting to goals and aspirations. What comes next can often come down to one’s success or their ability to be honest with oneself.

:APPLAUSE:

Nail on the head, I don't buy much vintage stuff these days mostly due to poor distribution and a grab while it's here or pay later down the line approach.

The only analogy I can use is justifying the (often) higher price for Takara items over domestic releases, Henkei/United comes into mind. I am often able to buy two Hasbro figures in lieu of one Takara and still have change!

Am I compromising or using my funds better? Am I happier having two new moulds and less chrome?

Yes, it's all about priorities. Yes, Takara will pull AM Breakdown and Skywarp out of the bag every now and then, but they are the exception to the rule.

Thought provoking stuff Maz, especially in times where everyone is having to be a bit more frugal in these times of austerity.

These articles really should be front paged too IMO, theyre relevant to collectors and TFsource is a site sponsor, keep 'em coming :D
