Which MP Prime do I want?
So Im finally getting back into collecting for the first time since i was a kid and its the new Metroplex that's gonna do it for me, but Im currently looking for the right MP Prime to kick it off.
I thought it would be easy to just pick up the hobby and man was i wrong. after a lot of research i gave only discovered that i have no idea where to start beside i want to get into the MP collection.
I want my Prime to be the same size as the MP megs i plan on picking up. Beyond that i have no idea which one is the most rare or most collectible or the best quality and looking figure.
any help would be appreciated.
Here's to a long and enjoyable but very confused road of collecting.

If Prime has to be the same size as Megs, it's MP01 or MP04. MP10 is a lot shorter, so Megatron would tower over him.
MP01 is also very lickable, from what I understand. So there's a bonus.

The other option is to wait and see if Megatron is being redesigned in the new scale the way Optimus was. In that case, I'd say go with whichever one you personally prefer.

As an owner of both MP-04 and MP-10 I would say that nobody can answer this but you. Do you know anyone what has both that they would let you compare?
You wouldn't be disappointed with MP-10 but MP-01/MP-04 feels more special. Sure it's quite boxy but it has nice little touches like the working pistons and the opening vents on his legs.
MP-10 does look great though, it seems more dynamic somehow. My only gripe with it is that when you pick it up it does feel like a smaller, cheaper version of MP-01 that has had its bells and whistles removed and then the remaining bits have been re-crafted into plastic awesomeness...if that makes sense. Oh and another gripe is that his ankles are very loose.

Thats the thing. I dont know anyone else that collects so it doesnt make it very easy. Where I live I there isnt a comic book store within a half hour drive and the closest ToysRus is a 40 minute ride. I dont anticipate this being an easy endeavor. On the bright side, I may be able to pick up a ton of cool stuff at local yard sales/flea markets etc.. At least thats what I'm hoping.
I appreciate all of the info so far. I had never even gave a thought to whether they would redo Megatron in the same scale as the smaller Optimus Prime.
Here's another question. I want the Prime to be larger than the smaller MP guys similar to the G1TV show. Does the MP1 and 4 just outrageously tower over the other guys or is the MP10 as big or the same size as say the MP Soundwave?
Basically, how do they look to scale compared to the rest of the collection? I want to be able to display them side by side and get the Gen1 cartoon feel out of it.
And RHA, I'm pumped my wife is supportive of this new hobby, if she caught me licking the figure we might have some unforseen issues.

Crap.
Also, and I know I'm a pain here but I want to get it right the first time... How about difference/preference/quality between the Takara vs Hasbro and 20th anniversary vs the DVD edition Primes? Are the Hasbro ones the scale of the MP 1 and 4 or the MP 10?
You know the only good thing about being this clueless going in is that finding all of this stuff out makes me feel like a kid again.

If you are looking to properly get into the MP line, even though this option is a good deal most expensive, avoid the 20th anniversary/ DVD versions and stick to either the Takara MP-01/ 04 or the Hasbro & Takara MP-10. These are the definitive molds, and MP really should be done right if your going to collect the line. Just my 2c.

I quite like the 20th Anniversary version with his added weathering details. The DVD version is nasty with its orange paint.

The Hasbro 20th Anniversary and DVD Primes are made from the MP01 Takara Mold.
The new TRU Exkusive Masterpiece is made from the MP10 mold.
Basically MP10 is smaller, is all plastic and forgoes the electronic gimmicks.
Where as MP01 is larger, has die cast so is heavier, and has light up gimmicks in his chest.
MP10 would be to scale with the newer MP cars as that's the base for scale now. He's taller, but won't dwarf them horribly as MP01 would.
At this time there is no new scale Megatron, so you have only one option for now.

The smokestacks on the Hasbro version are also shorter. That, and the poopstains ruin 20th Prime. Though MP-01 will cost a LOT of money.

Re: Which MP Prime do I want?
how does Hegemon scale up to MP10? because if he's the right size, he might be a suitable replacement til Hasbro/Takara re-do Megs (and that's surely going to happen fairly soon)
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

um i guess you cant read... he said mp-10, not mp-01.... and he is the same size as mp-10... also OP it is not really worth getting an mp-01, mp-10 is so much better IMHO. also hes is the scale that the masterpiece line is made now.

If money is not an obstacle, the Takara Tomy versions. (The Hasbro MP-10 is also a nice alternative) I've got both MP01 and MP-10 and MP-05. MP-01 goes well with MP-05. As for MP-10, he'll just have to wait for his on scale Emperor of Destruction counterpart.
So Hegemon is not on scale with MP-10? Don't own one and I was under the impression that he was on scale with MP-10.
