Anyone know what the significance (if any) of the gold chrome weapons for the G1 cassettes like Rumble/Frenzy and Buzzsaw/Laserbeak was? Was there any rhyme or reason to which figure was given which color of weapons or was it basically random? Are the gold weapons more rare? I remember having Laserbeak (i think) when I was a kid and him having gold weapons, but a friend of mine had Laserbeak too and his had silver weapons. Then again, I might have had Buzzsaw, I can't remember. Anyway, if anyone has any insight on this, I'd like to hear it.

Iirc, the gold versions came first for the USA version. I own the Takara version of Frenzy which came in a box + cassette plastic cases. His weapons didn't have a shade of gold and most probably released in 1985. The USA version which initially was released in 1984 had gold colors.

I think you might have mixed up Laserbeak and Buzzsaw. My version of Buzzsaw had a tinge of gold in his "remote controlled" laser weapons. It was included with my Soundwave(whose box btw had French bio data). I also have a Japanese ver Laserbeak which came in a card back pack with a plastic cassette case, his weapons were pure silver chrome (no gold whatsoever). I believe the gold colored weapons were mostly seen among Frenzy, Ramhorn, Steeljaw,Eject and Rewind aside from having silver colored weapons.

I made special mention for Buzzsaw because the Buzzsaw I own had a tinge of gold though not as golden as the others.

Then again, a lot of TFs had a lot of running changes to their mold.
