I need opinions on TFCC exclusives Nightbeat and Sentinel Maximus.
- Motto: "Individual freedom above all else."
I am planning on picking up 1 or both of these, and I would like some opinions from those of you who own either or both, or at least have held them personally. Maximus not so much, because I have Overload and I can already judge it mainly. All I want to know about him is that what would be a fair price to pay? Nightbeat, on the other hand, I would like to know how good he is transforming, is he posable, are his colors sharp, and also what a fair price for him would be? I would like to get at least 1 of these to go opposite my TFCC Astrotrain.

Nightbeat is $80-120 from what I've heard.
Sentinel Maximus is close to $400 last I checked. He's probably gone down since then.
Nightbeat's colors are great, the paint aps are amazing.. His headsclupt is kind of lame since the ears aren't there. His posability is crap by today's standard. Alt mode is really nice.

Nightbeat is a repaint, and slight remold (as in new head) of Energon Hot Shot.

With that said, he's not the best figure out there.
His posabilty is merely o.k. He does have balljointed shoulders, however the ball joint sockets point forward so he's movement to the side is very restricted. Though he can raise his arms straight forward with no issue.
He does have double jointed elbows, mostly for transformation, but they are useful in robot mode. He has a bicep swivel as well.
He only has lateral movement at the hips. He has knees (though they appear just under his crotch due to accommodating the combined robot mode gimmick), and some foot movement.
No head movement due to transformation.
He does retain the combination gimmick (which is what limits articulation), so you can powerlink him with any deluxe or Voyager sized Energon Autobot that has the feature.
To put him against TFCC Astrotrain would look slightly ridiculous. Since he's deluxe sized and Astro is a pretty hefty Ultra class.
I'd say Sentinel would work better there.
As for price of Sentinel: that comes down to how much you are willing to pay. Personally I wouldn't pay anything over 200 bucks

OK, thanks guys. If Nightbeat is a Hot Shot mold, i might as well just pick up Dion instead. Much cheaper. But it doesn't look as good. I will try for Sentinel first, but I won't offer too much for it, it's not like I have a money tree outside. I just sold a bunch of TFs and decided I earned myself a rare goodie.

Dion is based on Universe/Classic Hot Shot--which was a reinterpretation of the original Armada figure. While the molds were both originally purposed for the Hot Shot character, they are completely different molds.
(I don't think the Universe mold makes a very good Dion, myself. But I'm not impressed with any of the Nightbeat updates either, including TFCC's.)

It's hard to argue with the awesomeness of Sentinel Maximus. At the prices he commands, he's too much of a niche character to have much appeal for me. But I can certainly appreciate his appeal.

Neither the character or the colors on Sentinel appeal to me. That headsculpt feels a little too forced for me... In short... Nope. Never and certainly not for 400$.
That mold could have easily made a great Ultra Magnus, given the bodytype and alt. mode, though. All he needed was a new head. But then they decided on Sentinel for some reason.

I stand corrected on Dion, thank you. And wasn't Energon Ultra Magnus of the Overload mold?

Yes, he was. The colors just didn't do it for me and, as I said, the headsculpt could have been adjusted. That toy felt like a missed chance.

Yeah, and last I checked, it's hella expensive. Was it very limited or something?
I have Jetfire and Overload from Armada, and I have Astrotrain as well from TFCC. I just need another repaint of Overload to go with him. I was hoping to get a TFCC exclusive just like Astrotrain was, but I might have to settle for a Costco yellow Overload.

He was in the US, but for some strange reason Europe got solid cases of them (meaning he was the only figure in his wave), leading to shelfwarming. Now that I think about it, I hardly ever saw his supposed wave mate Tidal Wave.

You might want to save a search on ebay. There is one here.

Perhaps check Crave.

I think E-Magnus looks pretty cool. blue and white are Magnus colors. Maybe the head is not quite there. bu everything else screams Ultra Magnus, more than it did on the Red Overload and it did scream pretty loud in red anyway.

As far as Dion goes, I really don;t like him. The old wasn't that good of an update, though it was better than the original, it still suffered.
I think the Energon Hot Shot Vehicle mode is much nicer. Also as much as it suffers, you do get the extra combination gimmick with other Energon figures, which is more than you can say for Dion
