Star Wars TF could have worked (try to keep positive comments only)

imagine the TF invading the star wars universe.
they could have taken the form of these awesome crafts in the star wars
universe.
and instead of spike, we got Luke, Han, Leia, etc.
let me guess, Arcee would be pilot by Amidala and transforms into her
ship.
Jazz piloted by Han?
Soundwave-Slave1, pilot of course is Fett.
Megatron pilot Vader
Starscream pilot by Maul
Deathstar - Unicron
AT-AT - Tidal Wave
Grimlock pilot - Chewy?!
instead of vehicles trying to transform into the actual starwars character which is kind a strange...

I like milk.
I like orange juice.
First person to try to make me drink both in the same cup is getting a kick to the nuts.
Now, that's not to say that "riders" for Transformers is something that shouldn't be revisited. In fact, it's long overdue.
Then again, due to constantly never having one Transformer in scale with another, for some Transformers to have riders, they'd need to be "oh crap, my kid just swallowed something" small.

I think of the Star Wars bots being Beast Wars protoforms rendered blank and cast into space by the Quantum Surge.
As it was a slow random drift, many bots arived at many different times, thus alot of SW generations have them, also as blanks it would explain why the pods scanned both the alt and physical features of the pilot.
The Death Star though is an ambitious attempt by Vader to intergrate his own systems into the battle fortress with tech he mastered during his time spent with his tie fighter.

Star Wars TF's could've been brilliant, if it weren't for the fact that they kept the names and tried to make Robot Mode more human.

That's exactly what I was about to post. :p
I'm all for a new line of SWTF with SW characters riding known Transformers transforming into SW vehicles. And same concept with GI Joe, please.

Here we go again ;_;
Why do these things have to be part of TF lore? Almost everyone loathes the SWTFs, so be glad they aren't real TFs. They're 100% SW toys, just with the ability to shift shapes. There is absolutely no need for a Skywarp/A-Wing Fighter mixture. Heck the Decepticon Seekers shouldn't become goody Rebel and Republic fighters.
Those SW/TF amalgram designs (however nicely drawn and cleverly designed, I give you that) are IMO worse than what we got in the end. Not to mock you, but the SWTFs simply were not meant as crossovers. They just used the popular brand name because it fits somewhat and they had the legal rights anyway. These guys are as much TFs as those Animorphs were.
I don't know why all TF sites consider these part of the TF toyline. They could just as well include the classic Go-Bots

Personally I'm a fan of the SWTF line. Now granted the first two or three waves had more crap then good. But they've been steadily getting better. The Turbo Tank, Deathstar, and AT-AT from the newest wave all rock. Actually as goofy as it looks the AT-AT is almost cooled then the Turbo Tank.
The Jedi Fighter from the last wave is very cool. The falcon is a blast, the Emperor's shuttle and the Arc Fighter are pretty good figures as well.
For most of them its jsut the heads that hurt them. Which is why I've been working on replacing the heads on several of mine.
And regardless of if you like them or not Hasbro is marketing them under both the Transformers and the Star Wars lines. They aren't 100% Star Wars toys, they fall under both brand names. And they are a hell of alot better then the Animorphs.

thanx for posting those designs,
you can see how some of them are awesome ideas, but then how some of
them start to do a human like robot, which I believe is the down fall.
if they cross over with GIJOE, if they make the same mistake it won't work either.
the only time I think they can CROSS characters and make it work
is if the characters are robots,
such as GOBOTS!!!!!!
Cykill + Megatron = MegaKill
I would love to see that!!!
Optimus One
Optimus that changes to an F-16

SWTF's biggest failure to me was trying to make the "robot mode" look human and integrate the look of the human character into the robot.
Had this REALLY been Star Wars Transformers, the robot mode would have been a known TF character.
Instead, with Star Wars being the big line at the time, the TF name was whored out to prop up a franchise that was running out of steam due to lack of new movies.

Wow, Caelus, WOW!
I definitely have agreed with the notion that SWTF would've felt more fun as crossovers. Several of those designs look like they would've worked. I also like the idea of the Decepticons getting most of the Rebel craft and Autobots taking Imperial forms. The story becomes much more interesting if we don't automatically align the known good guys and bad guys together. I like how you even found an appropriate form for Primal.
Starscream - X-Wing
Thundercracker - Y-Wing
Skywarp - A-Wing
Megatron - ?
Grimlock - ATAT?
Jetfire - Imperial Gunboat?
Prime - ?
Star Destroyers are stupidly big, so I'd avoid having anyone turn into one. On the contrary, it might be cool to have the Transformers be the outgunned ones for a change, so they'd have to skulk about in machines far greater than themselves. Eh... it'd be cool. Too bad this never happened and never will.

I mostly looked at the vehicles as being ignorant of faction. But then as an American, I'm disinclined to see the F-15 (traditional Seeker alt) as a symbol of evil and despotism, so I don't see any need to give the evil characters 'evil' alternate modes.
So, rather than quibbling over faction lines, I just went with stuff that looked good or would be functionally beneficial to the bot:
Starscream - X-Wing or TIE Advanced
Thundercracker - B-Wing
Skywarp - A-Wing
Thrust - N-1 Starfighter
Dirge - Jedi Starfighter
Ramjet - Y-Wing
Trypticon - Star Destroyer
Onslaught - AT-AT
Brawl - AT-TE
Swindle - AT-ST
Blastoff - Imperial Shuttle
Vortex - LAAT/i Gunship
Optimus Prime - Juggernaut Turbo Tank
Jetfire - Modified X-Wing or maybe an E-Wing
Those were the only canon characters I drew up. Also did lots of fancreated characters though (the LAAT/i, N-1, IFT, and most of the critters in that first post).
Always had in mind for Powerglide to be a Snowspeeder, but never got him drawn up.

If the line were successful ... we would all want a movie. This wouldn't happen.
Even if it did make it to the big screen, there would be quite a disturbance in the force because of it.
Great sketches though. Awesome!
I do agree that TF's shouldn't look anything like humans. I don't like the necks of all of the G1 cartoon characters. They have muscles!

How come? Both robot mode and alt mode are SW based. There's no mention of the TF factions, Energon or the concept of Primus and Unicron. Instead, these things are battle mechs piloted by the actual characters. The robot modes aren't sentient living beings, they're being controlled. There's mention of the Force and it generally follows the established SW storyline. The only thing they took from TF are the tech specs and the name. There are plenty other transforming robots of different franchises, like Marvel (back when ToyBiz made them) and DC Comics. Those are also completely in their own universe, not only because it would be illegal for them to tie-in with TF, but also because it makes more sense as a subline than a crossover.
Granted, I started out as a purely SW collector, bought some SWTFs and got hooked on TF Cybertron. Even though the SWTFs were a literal crossover for me from SW to TF (which is now my main focus), the SWTFs pose as giant evil robotic beings in my SW cabinet. They are not part of my TF collection.

As far as the marketing, and the legal trademark of the figueres goes they are Transformers figures as well as Star Wars figures regardless of what the fans might think. Hasbro made them so, you can display them where you like and call them what you like, but when it comes down to it they are part of both lines. The fiction involved has nothing to do with it.
And personally I'd hate for them to be a crossover with established characters, I wouldn't mind some new characters ala the Star Wars expanded universe. Don't make them established Transformers or Star Wars characters. Make it a mix of new characters from both universes, thats what I'm doing for my collection. Most of the SWTF are getting new head, and I'm planning some paint work and minor mods to the pilots as well.
The Tie Fighter has already gained his new noggin and looks far better in my opinion with it.

First I've heard of an AT-AT tf...might have to get it. The pics I've found make it look pretty cool. The Death Star Vader looks decent, too, but it's kind of an expensive mistake if it's lame...

Wait till after Christmas, the Darth Star should go on sale. It's pretty sweet if you have the rest of the planets!
The At AT is OK, but the turbo tank rules. He loses a little in poseability because of the big-@$$ wheels, but it is a great fig!
I'd be into the idea of the bots in the SWTF line being established TF characters. This was done with GI Joe in the comics. The seekers as Cobra Night Ravens were pretty freakin' cool!
I don't have a problem with the bad guys using rebel ships, they are supposed to be robots in disguise after all. how better to infiltrate the enemy?
I liked the designs posted with the seekers as X-wings. That's cool! Though I'd keep them all the same ship.

It was a failed atempt at modern update of the diclone idea. They should have just left well enough alone not everthing needs to be done.
