Hello, I'm new to these boards. I discovered y'all while googling, trying to determine if I was asked for a fair price on a Transformers item I was offered today. The item is a Toys R Us Transformer display. It's a plastic box (with a particle board bottom.) It contains a Cyber Planet Key Optimus Prime and Starscream with name plaques in front of them. It has a button that activates lights and sound when pressed (when the 2 "D" batteries are installed.) The display can't be opened without destroying it and the figures have been crudely screwed to support posts behind them, but it's not something you see every day. The current owner asked me for $200 for it. As a new collector, I have no idea of it's value. While I collect for enjoyment, not investment, I also don't want to get ripped off. I can barely afford to add this to my collection, but I will if this is a fair price. If y'all don't think it is, what would be a reasonable counter-offer, in your opinion?
Thanks in advance - DESK

Sure it is rare, but you can buy a lot of other display worthy figures for that price. You can almost even by a Masterpiece Prime and an Ikea Display Case for that much.

If I remember correctly, this is Leader Prime and Supreme Starscream? That would be roughly $80+ on their own before the plastic casing.
It is basically what you feel you would pay. It is a cool and rare display piece. I could see some people pulling the trigger on that for $200.

You might be better off just hunting down the figures themselves like others have suggested -- I personally would have a hard time coughing up $200 for something that has "crudely" in the description. Do you like to transform or fiddle with the figures? It doesn't sound like you'd ever get to do that with these if you got the case. Not to mention that it sounds like the figures were damaged by the mounting.
You can find GF OP at Family Dollar for $20, and Supreme Starscreams can be found for a non-ripoff price, especially if you don't mind a small flaw (I paid $22 for mine, it was absolutely mint but missing the crown).
