Ultra Frustration for Ultra Magnus
- Motto: ""Excessive force is not necessary.""
You know what it's like.
You park, you walk across a parking lot, sometimes in the rain or snow. You stride thorough whatever store you've gone to, shoes squeaking loudly (on a wet day), all the way back to the extreme opposite end of the store where the toys always end up, only to find that (CRAP!) once again, the item you are seeking has not made its ponderous way to that store. Over and over, you perform this same ritual, and as time goes on without results your grumbling as you leave the store gets darker and more vicious.
That's been my story trying to find TFA Ultra Magnus. It seems for weeks, i've been hearing about numerous individuals all over the country who have one, who have done a video review of it, or who have them to sell on E-Bay for insane prices. Somewhere, out there, people are GETTING this item.
But NOT, it seems, Michigan.
We always seem to be the last place to get these items (well, apart from the poor kid in Portugal, who's still waiting for the last wave of movie figs to show up, lol).
The question is, why in the abyss is Hasbro dragging their heels in distributing this product? Did the chinese factory they were using to produce it fall into a crevasse caused by the latest earthquake? Or is it something more insidious like the typical capitalist plans to create a frenzy of demand by feeding tempting pics and reviews to the public with no product to speak of?
This is not the first time I've run into this (the first TFA wave comes to mind, along with Energon Shockblast and many others in the past, too numerous to mention) , but its the time that is ticking me off the most.
All together now, HURRY UP, HASBRO!
Anyone else champing at the bit for something TF related that never seems to come?

I know the feeling my friend; 09 Bumblebee, Alt wheeljack, Mirage. I have Magnus and it took me a few weeks to find him. I think he's a great figure. Anyway you can get a $10 off coupon from target use the dcpi # and have somebody look in the back for you by now most retailers should have him by now. Just be patient you'll see him soon.

I also got tired of hunting for Magnus. But the day I gave up I actually found him at my local Target!
There is always the other option of Hasbro Toy Shop...

He is in stock and ready to ship.

I've seen Magnus at retail twice, both sightings were at Target. I got mine from BBTS a few months ago, of course I paid about $10.00 over retail for it. I know it sucks, but be patient he will eventually show up. I bet by Christmass he will be everywhere.

But hey, all of the crap you take will be so worth it when you get that 'HOLY CRAP, IT'S HERE' feeling when you see them in-store. You know what I'm talking about. When you see it from down the aisle and run to grab them, grinning like an idiot but not caring. That feeling is worth all the rain, no?

I found what might be the only TFA Ultra Magnus in the entire Memphis area this past weekend.
Now, what IRRITATES me is the following:
1 ) Memphis is a central hub in the US for air freight, trucking, and river traffic, and is moderately major as far as rail goes. I mean, come on, FedEx is based here, and they also use FedEx for USPS now.
2 ) Memphis' Metro Area has a population of about 1.3 million as of 2007. We may not be the largest city in the region, but we are NOT a 'small town'.
And yet...
3 ) IF we get Store Exclusives at ALL, we usually get them 3-6 WEEKS after everyone else, or only a handful at a single store that is the most out of the way. In addition, except for major releases like the initial release of Movie toys, we usually get each wave 3-6 weeks after everyone else.
WHY?!?!?!?!?

You are not alone. It takes forever to get new stuff over here in New Jersey. I've been waiting for Ultra Magnus for months now.

Well, as it is, I ended up using my $10 Target coupon on a Premium Movie Prime yesterday for fear that the coupon would expire without being used (I had put it aside explicitly for Magnus). Amazingly enough, the cashier accepted the animated leader coupon for a Movie leader, which given the sale price only ended up costing $26! He's nice, so I'm glad I got him before the holidays put him on the extinction list.
I appreciate all your encouraging words in regards to Magnus...at least now I know that general distribution is actually happening, and that any day the bugger will show up, thus ending my frustration.
Then I'll get to do the dance....OOOOHHHH YYYYEAHHH....OOOOHHHH YYYEAHHH....(chicka-chickahhh!)

Amen to slow distribution there brother! I've said it once, I'll say it again: North Dakota. Nuff said.
And yet I'll go on. We've had nothing new at my target since AUGUST! No new Animated...the occasional restock of some shelfwarmers (which is everything here as I'm fairly certain only 3 other people buy Transformers in this place) but not so much as Blitzwing or Magnus to be found.
I did though, find a Sentinel Prime at Wal-Mart. I searched the whole store for an extra 15 minutes to see if a Swoop may have been misplaced. This was not the case.
What was I talking about? Oh yeah! We're probably the last ones to get ANYTHING up here.

Re: Ultra Frustration for Ultra Magnus
Looked and looked throughout south-central PA and northern Maryland for the bugger, only to find it at my local KMart a mere mile from my house. Little bit more expensive than WM or Target, but at least I can stop looking now.
Just wait, after Thanksgiving they'll be everywhere like Megs and Bulkhead. Patience pays off.
On a related note-
Magnus is far from my favorite figure, despite the slathering love he's getting from the community. My reasons-
I had to get two because my first one wouldn't stop making that transforming sound. Once out of the package, even the lightest bump would activate the noise and lights. Quite annoying.
Luckily they had two at the store. Returned the first one and got the second. This one's mouth hardly opens at all, but at least the sounds and lights are good.
Also, I really do not like how the shoulders are arranged. In bot mode, they don't articulate well, are sloppy in the kibble department and are way too far back (a design issue). Cool gimmicks, like the cannons and hidden guns, but still not worth all the hype. It looks really good standing on the shelf, but that's about all.
The plus side for me is the alt mode. Love the missile truck. I'll probably get the Roadbuster version for this reason alone.

Phoenix is the worst ofr getting stuff. I'll be lucky if I find it after Christmas.
Does anyone know where I can get that $10 off coupon? I can't find it anywhere and it was not in the Target book I got in the newspaper.

Re: Ultra Frustration for Ultra Magnus
Kinda glad I'm not the only one that has not found him. Been all over South Carolina (within about 100 miles of the house), and he is nowhere to be found.
I started to think that all the stories of people finding him were dreamed up by the TFA elitists that get their toys straight from the factory without passing Go and collecting 200 bucks. But, then I thought how ridiculous that is, and just resumed my search.
He's out there. Somewhere. Oh, and that feeling you get when you DO find him, is quickly joined by panic. Panic because you KNOW that that kid a few feet in front of you saw it too and is gonna get his mom to get it before you.
Should you smack the kid down, grab the figure and run to the nearest cashier while laughing maniacly? Or, let the kid have it, and resume your search?
All these questions...oh, cruel fate, why do you mock me so? I asked my Magic Eight Ball if I'd ever find Magnus...now it won't stop laughing at me.

Holy crap!
After an eternity of frustration and chafing at Hasbro, I finally found him!!!
I went to Target on my lunchbreak with a co-worker (he was looking for Premium Movie Leader Prime and Megs) when I spotted one lonesome Magnus, hiding demurely behind a leader Bulkhead. After I was done with the ohhh yyyeahhh bit, I even found the comic 2 pack with Dirge and Roadbuster on the endcap nestled in with a really ugly yellow Ratchet repaint.
The wait is finally, thankfully over. Time to set the irritation gauge back to zero so I can start building it back up searching for TFA Shockwave.
