Variant collectors cringe, rejoice, or do whatever you do when Takara releases their figures! Takara's mirroring Hasbro's Hunt for the Decepticons toyline, and with that we've got their Autobot Alliance versions of Seaspray, Sidearm Sideswipe and Breacher. Seaspray features bright orange plastic, contrasting to the gold on Hasbro's version. Sidearm Sideswipe is decal-less, featuring silver and darker windows all around. Last is Breacher, who features darker blue hues. Perhaps now you can answer your own questions, such as "are they worth the import fees?" Check each of Alfes' galleries in the links below!

Awesome.......if I waited a couple freaking weeks, I could have gotten a near perfect Sideswipe. :BANG_HEAD:

Well, I am going to have to get the Takara version at some point. It is too good to pass up. Dang it!

Same here. But IDK how to buy off of websites. I mean, I know how, I just don't have the resources, like a credit card.

Lots of websites accept paypal. You don't need a credit card, just a bank account.

I think my US Sideswipe will be getting a ROTF Swerve head
and the Takara version will be taking the primary position
on the shelf.

The sidswip looks absolutely fantastic, the seaspray not so much. And breacher well breacher is my personal favorite scout-class of all time. He is such an amazing figure, everyone needs one. But the darker hue...not worth it. Im thinking of buying a hasbro seaspray just because him and breacher are partners.

Times like these I wish I lived in Japan. Seaspray would be so mine, and I might even pick up Sideswipe too. Looks really good without the red.

Just to change the US version up a bit.
It kind of gives an excuse for the red deco.
I will have to dig out that head from my parts
bin and check the differences. I think the
Sidearm Sideswipe mold has a smaller head
component than the "Swordy" type, hmmmm...

Heck I may just repaint his outer panels all
black and and call him "Grammaton" due to how
Gun-Kata perfect the mold is.

Hasbro Seaspray looks a lot better. Takara's looks more like a cheap knock off.

Hasbro's Sideswipe looks far, far better than the Takara one. I've been really happy with the Hasbro one since I bought it a month back, and I love the red deco on it. The silver on on the wheels is the only bit where the Takara one is better but I've already painted the wheels on mine (and the guns to look metal). The Takara one STILL fails to paint the red 'lights' on the back of the car that breaks up the silver chest nicely (again which I added to mine). The only thing that bugs me about this mold is how small it is. Seems sub-deluxe. Anyways yeah Hasbro wins on this one again.

Breacher looks barely any different to really care either way.

Props to Takara for trying to make Seaspray a little more toon-accurate with the orangey-yellow... I just don't think it works that well. I feel like the gold on HFTD Seaspray looks classier. Too bad TakTom didn't go all the way, and try to give the new Seaspray a complete G1-esque paint job in bot-mode (though as I mentioned in a different thread, I'm guessing it would've looked ridiculous in alt-mode, breaking up the natural paint scheme of the hovercraft).

As mentioned above, Breacher's not different enough to me either to warrant paying import fees.

Personally, I don't like Seaspray's design. It's not ugly, I just think it doesn't follow the movies aesthetic.

On the other side of the spectrum, Takara's Sidearm Sideswipe is terrific ! I will get it as soon as it is available on European web retailers. Hasbro's silver & red color scheme is of such bad taste ! I dislike so much Hasbro's version that I had previously decided to discard the Sidearm mold from my collection. Everything is different now.

It is not the 1st time Hasbro disappoints me with the color schemes they choose (in comparison to Takara). Leader class Jetfire is another example: Hasbro chose blue & gray for Jetfire's body, while Takara chose black and metallic dark brown (much more movie accurate).

Breacher's the only one I want...maybe SideSwipe to make into SunStreaker, but mainly, I want to change Breacher's head and make it a movie Roller...

That's fair enough. No doubt, he matches very well with the classics aesthetic ...
