Weeding out your pre-orders

I tend to kind of have a knee-jerk reaction to new products, pre-order now ask questions later if you will. Today I was going through my pre-orders at BBTS and decided their was stuff in there that had to go. Here's the stuff I got rid of and why:

TFA Freeway Jazz and Electostatic Soundwave: I never had any interest in Freeway Jazz only Soundwave, and really the only reason I wanted him was for the Ratbat. So basically I was going to spend $35.00 for Ratbat. I still plan on getting Soundwave, but I'll find him at retail. He's already made an appearace in my area, just have to keep my eyes peeled.

ROTF Recon Ironhinde and Bludgeon: I still plan on getting these, but they are part of the current main line. In a couple of months they will be everywhere, again I'll find them at retail. Basically I was going to pay more to get them maybe a month early.

Black MP Prime: Sure he looks cool, but I already four versions of that mold. Do I really need another? Ultimately I decided I didn't. Plus I can see this getting marked down after a while. Much like the ehobby G1 Omega Supreme repaint that I paid full price for.

G1 repaint EZ Devastator: Already have the original, I can quiet the inner G1 fanboy inside me enough to not need this.

Device Label Trypticon: Had they went with the original concept of Overkill, I probably would have stayed in. This mold just doesn't suite Tryticon or Grimlock to me.

Skids and Screech: I pre-ordered these guys before we even knew what they were. Now that I've had a good look I'm out.

It wasn't a money issue, I just decided this was stuff I didn't really want or need. I feel somewhat liberated now that I can view my entire pre-order list without having to scroll down!

I've never gone with preordering and I regret that to some extent. Things like MP Grimlock went up as time went on so I could have got him cheaper if I'd preordered him immediately. Anything that's likely to appear at retail I can wait for. With figures I really want i'll buy as soon as they hit the shelves but others I am forcing myself to wait until they go on sale, like Leader ROTF Megs.

Now I have decided to preorder import only figures asap cos that does seem to be the cheapest way.

That's basically what I've done as well. From now on I'm not preordering anything that will show up at retail. To the best of my recollection there has never been a figure that I wanted including store exclusives that I could not have picked up at retail.

I've only ever pre-ordered things that were not exclusive to the US and things not sold in stores, City Commander and it's upgrade, and DL Ravage and :-x Blaster :-x . Being that I very close to a good shopping area, I have always found it silly to think of pre-ordering regular retail items.

I know that if I am patient enough I will find it eventually.

Yeah, I never preorder domestic stuff, unless it's something I know will be super hard to get, and there hasn't been anything yet. I preorder stuff I'm not sure about though, since with BBTS you can always change your mind. I'm usually pretty sure about what I want though.

I know that there are a lot of collectors that have to travel far to get to any one store, let alone all of the big 4 (Wal*Mart, K-Mart, TRU and Target), whereas I only have to go about 2 miles to hit all 3.

I weeded out my HOS Prime a few days before we saw the colored pictures, although after seeing the new head mold I would have dumped it anyway. That and Blaster being cancelled cut my pre-orders a full 50% in just a couple of days. I'm not sure if that really counts though!

HOS Prime survived the cut, he's one of the few things left on my pre-order list. I'm actually quite pumped for that figure.

City Commander was actually my first preorder. I've done all the FansProject stuff, including the Alt Prime upgrade. Right now, I've only got Ghost Starscream, Dark Skyfire, and HOS Prime on Preorder, and I'm still on the fence with HOS Prime.

I'm actually only waiting on Alternity Bumblebee and Disney Label Donald Duck. I'm somewhat on the fence about BB, and I wouldn't buy Donald at all if it wasn't a gift for my girlfriend. *shrug*

Agreed although I may have to when it comes to DCU Classics. As far as preorders go. Money is always tight so I only order what I really want.
