WfC Optimus Prime stress marks?

Postby Wes Crayon » Thu Aug 19, 2010 8:24 am

Here's something I've been wondering about, since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere yet -- stress marks around the pin on the figure's right leg.

Image

I've gone through three Optimus Primes and all of them have the problem, so I'm guessing it's either common or I'm just that lucky. Sure, the area is covered up in robot mode, but I'm not so much worried about aesthetics as with breakage. A similar thing happened with my Classics Starscream (the piece around the pin broke off almost completely) and I can't stand to look at the thing now.

Does anyone else out there have a Prime with a stressed leg, or is it just the ones I touch?

Well, you made me look - and nope, no stress marks here. And yes, I've transformed him multiple times.

Have him right next to me on my desk. No stress marks on either side, and I play around with him all the time.

Something like this happened to my brand new, box-fresh Seaspray last night. The hinge on the panel behind his shoulder cracked. :( I wonder if I should exchange him...

If it was due to weak plastic, I certainly would.

btw, how do you like that figure? I keep passing him up, since I really don't like the color scheme a whole lot for his bot mode. I do think the mold looks good in both modes though, and if the transformation is nifty I would very possibly look into grabbing him. Still a making, but there is something intriguing about the figure to me.

Mine has stress marks on his right leg. What's worse, is in vehicle mode, the set of rear wheels on that leg is loose at the hinge, making it prone to come out of place when in vehicle mode. It basically gives the vehicle a lopsided look. And I haven't figured out a good way to fix it yet, other than keeping him in robot mode.
Currently in need of: RID Rail Spike robot mode head (not Rail Racer's head); RID Midnight Express gun; RID Rapid Run missile; Animated Ultra Magnus' Hammer

It almost seemed like some sort of molding problem was preventing the hinge from moving, and then when I used a bit of force it cracked. :( I guess if I see another I'll pick it up and return the busted one, but for now he's still a bit of a commodity around here.

I posted a short review in the haul thread, but basically I would say he's worth picking up, although I found him a little disappointing, through no fault of the figure. I just think his transformation is a little more simple than I was hoping, but I always forget that Voyagers are very often like that. We've also been really spoiled by great Deluxes lately, and it didn't help that I opened Battle Blade Bumblebee first. Seaspray's still a cool figure, I'm just not wowed by him. I'd say wait for a sale if you're on the fence, or if you're leaning more towards yes, pick him up if stock is scarce.
