For faces, I usually watch people talking, watch how the different parts of their face move against and with one another.
It's always good to get an anatomy book and trace out basic outlines of the major muscle groups and watch how they move. Looking in the mirror and going through different expressions helps.
It takes practice. This face was the last out of at least half a dozen designs that I scraped because the didn't 'work'.

Thanks a bunch. I'm working on my character now. (It helps that I'm good at drawing human forms, but not so much with females, but I got a good female human outline after a bunch of erasing. [I draw men characters more often then females, so yeah, I need some practice.])
