Cyberverse Ultimate Hot Rod Found at US Retail + Video Review

After watching the two specials, we see that Hot Rod is still quite prominent, as he ascends to one of the main Cybertronian leaders. So an Ultimate figure being available for parents to buy for their kids makes sense. And the Transformers Cyberverse Dinobots Unite Ultimate Hot Rod has been found at retail in time for the holliday season (take that supply chain!). He was found at Target along with Volcanicus, his wavemate. Fellow Seibertronian Chuckdawg has a review of this toy for us, so anyone curious about this big kids toy can check it out below.

chuckdawg1999 wrote:There's a lot going on with Hot Rod that's fun, unfortunately, there's quite a bit that's going wrong. Might be my copy, might not. When the entire point of a toy is the gimmick transformation you kinda need to make sure that works, all the time. If you're a fan there might be something here for you but I definitely can't recommend this for younger fans.

Poor Roddy. I really feel that Cyberverse really did the character justice. He comes into his own, grows and becomes a strong leader naturally. And they didn't write him into a corner and turn him into a complete whiney idiot looser in the hopes that people wouldn't loose their minds when they replace him like the did in G1 s3. But the toys for this version... barf. I mean, the warrior class or whatever it was called was a good well designed toy... with almost 0 paint apps, making it look like a cheap ko. Then there's this. Poor Roddy almost never catches a break. Oh thank heavens for the ss and kingdom commander. ;)^

Looking for a Christmas Gift / Birthday gift for a 4 year old, haven't actually looked at cyberverse so no idea how good they may be for a 4 year old.

Is Volcanicus a good option? He seems to be rather cheaply priced from what I can gather. Does the transformation gimmick work well for a 4 year old?

How about Supreme Shockwave?

4 may be a bit too young. Maybe stick with Rescue Bots for now?

But if you want to introduce him to something more "grown up", Supreme Shockwave is a great choice. Especially because you're sure to find one on sale.

My kid is 4 and Cyberverse is perfect. He didny like the ultimate ones (very finicky transformation due tonthe auto convert gimmick).
The combining megatron and slug set is his favourite. Since its easy to get from one mode to the next and the combining gimmick is fun and works well.

Warrior Cybertronian Starscream is also good and so is one step Megatron, wheeljack and starscream.

Dont get the deluxe toys, they are too advanced. Rescue bots is a bit too easy for 4 year olds.

Thanks, yeah, Rescue bots seems to easy for him.

I’ll look into Megatron.

I found a Volcanicus at Target yesterday, and better yet, had a 25% off 1 toy coupon. I loved him in the show, and even though I'm glad I got the toy and it is pretty enjoyable, I hope he gets a proper toy eventually using this design and transformation scheme. He was just so fun in the show!

Toy itself is pretty neat. I like it.

Also, Slug is still really awesome.

I think Slug is a perfect example of how to do a kids' toy, that's fully poseable and detailed, while still retaining a fairly simplistic ,(?) transformation.

More of this please, Hasbro.

I actually think this is incorrect.

Slug by no means has a "simple" transformation. I would argue the opposite: his transformation might actually be more complex than the SS86 leader Slug. It is a fun transformation, but this is not something that would fit with the much younger demographic. Warrior Snarl is probably a better example of simple but still fairly posable and fun. Slug will frustrate many kids, especially with the legs and the many different steps to transform the torso

Oh, cheers for the update. It's it more frustrating than that recent (large) Hotrod you that Chuckdawg just reviewed?

Anyway, it's just good to see that at least some "perfect" TFs are cooking out (kind of "G1 transformations with good posability), which is the only gimmick I would want, at the very least.

The Ultimate class figures are not that complicated, just the more recent ones have issues with the spring loaded transformation. Slug is complicated but doesn't get in the way or doesn't have any bits just randomly spring load out

I was looking at the line's recent rerelease of one step figures and that Soundave jumped out at me. It's not from Cyberverse but from RID. Was it rereleased for Cyberverse before?

I believe that was one of the very first Cyberverse toys released, IIRC.

Figured as much.

Speaking of Soundwave, I opened my Deluxe Soundwave in the new packaging... blast effect is missing. Looks like Hasbro's green initiative means really scrutinizing over figures to make sure none of the accessories have fallen out of the open-air boxes.

I got my Dead End, who might just be the final Cyberverse toy i will get since he looks to be the dead end of the line. He is wonderful, best Warrior for sure, beating Snarl and Windblade

Did we know Deluxe Arcee and Starscream were being re-released in the new open boxes? Saw them at Target Monday for the first time, forgot about them until just now.

That is news. The only open-box Deluxe rereleases we knew of were Soundwave, Grimlock, and Thunderhowl.
