Third party toy maker Headrobots has updated their website with information regarding Gyro, the set intended to upgrade Whirl from the TRU Exclusive Master of Metallikato set.

In order to get Gyro out to fans we made the difficult decision to make it available as a very limited run resin kit. The final kit will be bubble free and casted in color with artwork and will be severely limited at 100 pieces since every piece will have to be produced by hand. The price is $35 for a new head, 4 guns, and 2 wings. The below site will be the only place to get it from and because of the time involved in producing these we would rather spend time on new designs than producing these kits.

There isn't a thing on this planet that can save that mold. I just bought this set earlier in the week. Both figures were completely wretched and floppy. I'm glad that Whirl was actually missing pieces so I wouldn't feel guilty about returning them. I was actually pretty excited to have finally gotten them because I was excited about buying something else from these guys. Shame, I won't be doing so for this.

How hard could it be to mass produce a damn head and some solid one piece accessories ??? I am interested but I cant stand when these 3rd party companies go into "drama queen mode". If the product is available and I trust the company they choose for export, I will buy it. But Im not gonna loose sleep checking online every hour. Im not gonna compete with 100 geeks who live on the computer day and night to be the first to order. I want the head but not that bad. :lol:

UPDATE:

After Botcon is a little too long for a pre order in my book. I dont like people holding my cash for more than a month before shipping it out. If the things sell like wildfire, they will get in business mode and shell out more kits. If the last 25 or so dont sell, Ill cop one in May.

I don't quite understand their reasoning. Didn't they design this kit to be produced?

I like this set and was rather excited about picking it up. But, I'm not real happy it has been downgraded into just a resin kit.

I hope this isn't what happens to the Deluxe Bludgeon set, "Blood" I think it was called.

I pre-ordered 2 sets! I'm a fan of Whirl.

I really wanted 3, but it just felt like overkill.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't look like they will be making the Bludgeon Kit :sad:

you know I was really looking forward to getting the Blood/Gyro two part kit...but apparently that isnt happening.

Wah...dont promote shit you dont plan on producing then next time. Though thanks to this show of classiness...its one less 3rd party producer to worry about. I wont be shopping with them again.

P.S. The RotF Whirl is pretty craptastic. Ill probably give mine to a little kid when I upgrade him with DotM Skyhammer who will become my new whirl.

I wonder if TRU slipped Headrobots a bit of cash to pretend to be making the Blood/Gyro kit to shift the vast numbers of the Bludgeon/Whirl's that were warming their shelves around the world!?

I think Headrobots have done their reputation no favours from this. 'Oh look at this exciting new thing that Headrobots are producing','Meh, it'll probably never get produced........'.

Got mine. MegaToyFan is the "storefront" for CapturedPrey.com. They're pretty cool guys. I bought my red crystal Snake head from them last year at BotCon.

Also coupon code FREEBIE gives you free shipping in the US.

They never said they were going to make Gyro or (Deluxe) Blood. They should some prototypes on their site. That's all. It's just like FP with the mini Classics Megs, Matrix, etc. that never saw the light of day.

Calm down people and be thankful their doing it at all. As Flux said, the base figure here sucks, and there wasn't a whole lot of interest.

Remember the 3rd party head for FansProject Ultra Magnus? I believe it was resin as well. The heads were severely deformed.

But not all resin kits are bad. It depends on a lot of factors, and with some skill, it turns out well, like the Renderform kits.

I don't have anything to do with that mold, never cared for it. As for the upgrade set... 35$ for a decent head, two insignificant wings, and two small guns. Not too mention a lifespan of 100 peices. They'll be lucky to sell all 100, that seems like a total ripoff to me.

I was really looking forward to this release. Huge Wreckers fan. But I just don't have the fundage. Oh well. Still, an excellent head and nice weapons. To those who get him, I am just a tad envious. :SICK:

If you missed out on the Headrobots upgrade for ROFT Whirl, Gyro, you've got another chance. Due to the unexpectedly quick sell out Headrobots has decided make more sets available. The preorder is set to reopen tonight at midnight. The preorder at MegaToyFan will be open for three days with a limit of one per customer.

In other Master of Metallikato news, the DLX Blood upgrade for Whirl's rival in the set, Deluxe Bludgeon, will be produced. The set will be hand crafted with exception of the head and helmet, and mass released. No word on when this set will be available.

I really wish the base molds these are intended for weren't so awful. I was really interested in these. I'm really interested to see what else these guys have in the works beyond the voyager Bludgeon kit.

Dunno what you're on about. These are decent TF figures. The only thing I didn't like about the Wreckage mold was the boring vehicle mode but these addons turn into a far cooler looking tank sorta thing than some actual Hasbro stuff I could mention lately (the crap tank mode on the recent Warpath figure for one). I'm not bothered about Whirl cos I just never thought the character had any appeal whatsoever. I'm tempted to get a Deluxe Bludgeon to get these addons even though I already own the superb Voyager Bludgeon (and am waiting for the upgrade kit for that too, it said released in March, when in March, wheeeen?)

They opened a pre-order for another 100 or so after the first 100 sold out in less than a day.

Bludgeon was a floppy mess right out of the box. His transformation gimmick in the chest prevents him from staying in bot mode if you make any attempt to play with it. To top it off, he was missing pieces which made it easier for me to return. Those figures were crap for me and I wish they were better. I'd like to keep supporting these guys since I like the work they do. That's what I'm on about.

That upgrade does look good on that Bludgeon. I really want that mold too, so maybe...

i would awesome the weapons would and skyhammer does has the 5mm mechtech ports on each engine and under his wings. The head i dont know, skyhammer is a ball joint so depending on what system this head uses we will see.

i would awesome the weapons would and skyhammer does has the 5mm mechtech ports on each engine and under his wings. The head i dont know, skyhammer is a ball joint so depending on what system this head uses we will see.

I can't recall how Whirl/Blackout's head is attached, and all my movie figures are is storage.

Well its only motion is swiveling...but its a full 360 so it could be a balljoint? the shape of the head doesnt allow for up or down movement so i cant be sure.

I already have the voyager Bludgeon upgrade ordered, but I am definitely going to grab the deluxe one as well since you have to be a deluxe to be "in scale" anymore.

My voyager Bludgeon wasn't floppy but I do have complaints about the mold. One being the feet which cannot be fixed with the upgrade. The other being that horrible head. #-o

I've been wondering about this as well. But, after looking at pictures of Blackout/Whirl, i fear that the head isn't on a ball joint.

I have no idea. I would be more willing to buy this as a set. I wish they would make more Headmasters like their Hardhead upgrade. I love mine!

Major bumpage, I just received today notification that Gyro is shipping out. Just thought I'd share so people know what in the world they bought from a guy named Bret Lovell.

on a related note, does anybody have any pointers about fixing the rotating chest part on voyager whirl? its slightly off and i don't want to force the gears and risk breaking the toy. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

That picture does look a bit rough. I actually had these two pre ordered, but after such a long time, I can't remember from where :lol:

I have their Hardhead upgrade and love it. Hopefully this QC issue isn't wide spread. I like the guys over at Headrobot, dealt with them extensively at Botcon 2010.

This being a garage kit, I think we can expect quality to be quite different from usual HeadRobot products. I too expected the quality to be better. What I'm really interested in is the DX Blood kit.

just installed this on my Whirl, looks amazing in a Rob Leifeld kind of way haha. if youve gotten stuff from Venksta you know what to expect. theres a little mold release powder on everything, and its not as sharp as fansproject, but it is a really standout upgrade nonetheless. it doesnt fix the molds otherwise glaring problems, but hey i have a classics Whirl now! woo!
