Jason David Frank has Passed Away

Posted by william-james88 Nov 20, 2022 at 2:28pm CST 41,107 views
We regret to inform you all that Jason David Frank has passed away at the age of 49, due to suicide. While he is most prominent for his role in the Power Rangers franchise, he was very active amongst his fanbase and all fans, and crossed paths with many of us Transformers fans attending the same conventions. We even have this nice image below of our own Seibertronian Cyber Bishop giving him a punch as a Storm Trooper, a pic Jason wanted because he said troopers always get the bad wrap for not being able to hit anything.

It's just a small story illustrating how involved he was with fans from any pop culture fandom. And he did brush with the Transformers fandom as well since he was the voice Emissary in Transformers Titans Returns. This is a sad day for many many fans and we wish his family our our sincere condolences.

I never got into MMPR because that was the only direct competition that ever kicked the slag out of Transformers, during G2. But I realized how stupid that was, and went out of my way to see a panel with him and Amy Jo Johnson at Motor City Comic Con a few years ago. I mostly remember him saying he'd be interested in playing Lord Drakkon if the opportunity arose, someday.

Getting to see him that once suddenly means a lot more. Rest in Power.

I was taken back by the news when my wife told me. This is why mental health is so important. My condolences to his family, though I know my words will mean little to them.

Rest in peace, Jason

This story is a gut punch. It hits too close to home. I almost lost my dad in 2010 due to suicide and missing his calls due to being away for military training. I was lucky to have others call and request a wellness check for him and received notice from the Red Cross that my dad was being checked into the ICU to have his stomach pumped and was on a 5150 hold until my training was done and I could check him out. I wish that his family is able to grieve and celebrate his life in a peaceful manner during this holiday season and extend my deepest condolences. RIP Jason David Frank.

This does hurt to find out. I was a bit young to remember Mighty Morphin' when it was new, but I did enjoy Power Rangers Dino Thunder when I was a kid, that was my introduction to both Jason Frank himself and Tommy. I also survived a suicide attempt a couple of years ago, but still struggle with my mental health a lot and live with suicidal urges near daily.
Suicide is one of those things that can hit anyone, at any time, even if it seems like they have everything together and are living a happy fulfilling life, they may very well not be. That's why it's important to reach out and talk to people, they may be suffering in silence, but while a simple "Hi, what's up?Do you want to chat for a bit?" may not be a miracle cure or anything, but it can mean the world to someone going through that.

I hope everyone can find peace and solace with each other after this.
Rest in peace Jason David Frank.

Seconding this. I've been there a couple of times (never made an actual attempt always caught myself while I was still contemplating/planning), and one of the biggest things to have kept me from going through with it was the support system I was lucky enough to have.

Hope both he and everyone affected find peace.

I was there from the very first episode’s original airdate in 1993 (Fox Kids had been showing commercials hyping me up for about a month prior), and instantly fell in love with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. The Green Ranger was always my favourite, so much so that I collect Green Ranger stuff to this very day. I’ve always attributed me having long hair most of my life to Tommy from Power Rangers, and Duncan MacLeod from Highlander. I got to meet JDF back in 2018, and though I’ve met a lot of relatively famous people in my day, this was the first time I got starstruck and nervous. Got him to sign my reissue of the original “head morphing” Green Ranger figure, which has been up on my wall ever since. He later gave a presentation about his past struggles with addiction and depression, and how he overcame them. It was a really inspiring speech. It’s a shame his demons got the best of him. When I first saw the headline this morning about his death, I quite literally dropped my phone in shock. His death is hitting me especially hard given my own experiences with suicide, having just attempted it for the dozenth time this past summer.

Rest in power, JDF. You were loved by many.

Damn, sorry you had to go through that. :(

If you, Munkky or anyone else ever needs to talk about it, send me a pm.

I'm at a loss for words.

To think that things could get ever that bad that one would even consider just ending it all... It's too sad to even fathom. :(

Life ain't easy, as they say. We all have our own good and bad days. Sometimes it simply comes to our ability to endure the worst of them.

RIP JDF

Been there almost every day of my life for over 20 years. Not saying this to get sympathy or anything, just a statement of fact.

You never really know what someone is going through. Four children lost their father way too soon.

I suppose a weapon or drugs aren't as readily available as what is necessary to hang yourself.
