Review of Robots in Disguise One-Step Combiner Force Sideswipe and Drift

Seibertronian Chuckdawg1999 has sent us his latest review for the Robots in Disguise one-step changers Sideswipe and Drift! Drift is another use of the butterfly transformation while Sideswipe is an all new mold. You'll find Chuck's thoughts below along with the review!

chuckdawg1999 wrote:While there's a large number of fans who just can't get behind the concept of simplified figures, the RID One Step changers make for interesting desk toys. Drift is done in the butterfly opening style which if I'm honest, has been way overused. Sideswipe, features a fantastic new transformation that I hope to see more of in the future.

Hopefully somewhere will still be stocking the RID lines after the Movie toys come out. I expect having two legion lines is going to cause some trouble though - unless the Movie one replaces the RID one - which would annoy me a lot as I still need to get Legion Bisk and frankly I'd like a Legion Thermidor too.

They showed some newer ones at Australian Toyfair and so It looks like they are going to be making both at the same time - but darn is the supermarkets never going to order both. So one of them is going to be hard to get. same with the onesteps too.

I am hopeful Sideswipe (Transformation 3) will show up before the line gets canned. as I don't much appreciate having to import onesteps.

Crazybolt was released in the US, with Entertainment Earth having stock for a few very brief moments and walmart.com had them in stock (sold by themselves and not a marketplace seller) for about two days back in the fall? This is nitpicking, I realize, as it was effectively not released here in the scope of things ;)

So new Warriors arrived from HTS yesterday. For the new molds, I thought Blurr was a bunch of fun but the poseability is limited. I enjoy Soundwave quite a bit, but objectively, many of you won't. The alt mode is strange, it has visible hands in said mode, and some parts don't quite move around as seamlessly as they could. Personal taste on the design and transformation scheme has me pretty positive on it, but if I put on the critical toy nerd hat it doesn't hold up well. Anyone else pick these up?

I got both yesterday as well. They are both good and fun, but not the winners of the line to me.

soundwave feels a little lighter than I'd like, and his chest looks a bit too big in robot mode. I love the design but I wish it was a little denser and a little less... chesty.

And Blurr, yeah the posability feels off, and I think his shoulders are a bit too high.

They are alright and lots of fun, but they aren't the Thunderhoofs and the Fractures of the line

That's a very succinct and effective way to describe them. Good, but not great like the ones you mentioned and Bisk.

It's actually kind of funny that Blurr, Ratchet, and Windblade are the only Autobots I've bought in the past year. It's been ruled by the Rid cons

I really wish the new wave info would drop so I can find out if I need to import a Bisk & Ratchet warrior class or not.

Picked up Blurr and Soundwave.

I actually really like Blurr. No waist swivel, but poseable nonetheless, and a fun transformation.

Is it just me or does Blurr have TFP Wheeljack's legs?

No they are completely different. the transformation of the legs is wholly different. I can show it off later

Ah does anyone remember when RID-12 Wheeljack and Co were seen as "Simplified" & "under-decorated" - ah the good ol' days.

My only complaint with TFP Wheeljack is he needs his faction symbol. I would have also preferred his face but his battle mask does look cool. I will admit that whenever I try drawing Wheeljack it is a pain and he often winds up looking like a gremlin so I understand why they gave him the mask instead.

There's a few Wheeljack's on Ebay if you don't mind used toys. I was able to get mine off there and he was in good shape. You wouldn't be able to tell someone owned him before me.

As far as RiD goes the only ones I really felt I needed to have were Thunderhoof and Ratchet. I have found this line to be a little...underwhelming. I may grab a minicon or two at some point but I think I'm better off with Titans Masters.

Tricerashot is AWESOME

First taste of the Weaponizer Mini-cons and he's a damn good one! I've wanted more Targetmasters for a while and if this is standard for the subline I am very happy with RiD 15 right now :)

..and I only ever saw that stupid boxset and no individual weaponizers. so Slipstream, filling in as my Jetstorm, is my only weaponizer :(

ANy reason? Is it just budget or does the line leave you uninspired? I can recomend some good ones and once this line is over I will happily write a list of the top 5 new molds within the RID/TAV lines.

If you are gonna grab minicons, better do it before they are completely sold out and impossible to find, because its about to become that way soon.

Sadly, he is not the standard, he is the best one. I find the rest not as great. The others I like are Bludgeon and Sawtooth since they have both fun robot modes and weapons.

Budget. Remember my big Christmas and birthday hauls? That's pretty much the only time of year I get anything, which is why I got so much. Trying to get TR deluxe completion, so everything else (except TLK Leader Megs) is low priority.
