this sucks. i mean, this is a movie about big friggin robots beating the crap outta each other, and this is in the soundtrack?the characters are metal, the music should be metal. period

No. Metal drives people away. Most people don't want to hear guys screaming while gigantic guitar solos play.
This song is for the love story between the two human characters, anyway, it isn't the theme.

it works for a love song and thats what it is for. i dont see anything completely wrong with it. some of us may not like it cuz its not our 'type' of music but it works.

Like I said, I'll take Stan Bush's old school version of the TF theme over anything from Goo Goo Dolls. I realise they want to market to a more general audience in regards to the movie, but I've never been one to jump on a band wagon, in this case, stuff from bands who are played on the "trendy" music stations.
