A nod to the 2006 build-a-figure, the next #TransformersTuesday reveal is a re-assembled classic, Deluxe Transmutate! She features break-apart Fossilizer pieces and her iconic innocent-yet-twisted face as seen in the “Transmutate” episode of the Beast Wars animated series. Available NOW for pre-order: https://go.hasb.ro/3dMUrSW

As adorable as Transmutate is, I am surprised to see a new figure. Even a minor retool.

$59.99
$60?
Did not even pay that for Thundercracker and Skywarp. not gonna pay that for Thrust alone.
Also, yeah totally called Transmutate back when Paleotrex was revealed and the rumor surfaced.
Don't think I need Transmutate though. Paleotrex is enough for me. Unless Paletroex is sooooo good when I get him, I need a mother one of him in teal and gold.

Yeah, no. $40, $45, I could understand. $60 that's just trying to pull one over people that want a Thrust. Seriously, there's nothing that justifies double the MSRP.
Best thing to do is to not buy it at that price. Otherwise, they'll just keep doing it. But alas, many will want to get it at that price regardless.
My respect for TFsource as a reasonably priced online option is quickly fading away.

Random thought:
Hasbro is reportedly going to keep a portion of an exclusive to sell on their own site (or, ideally, an additional percentage on top of what the retailer wants).
Alternative: Hasbro windows the retailers exclusivity, so that after the exclusivity period is over (say, one year) Hasbro can just straight up make a new batch, large as they like, and sell it themselves or to other retailers.
It's not like the retailer would care about the one item after a few months anyway. They've marketed and sold it and moved on. It'd make collectors a little less antsy about missing a figure or have to pay absurd aftermarket prices.
As an aside, I saw this morning that someone listed not one, not two, but SIX Earthrise Ironhide/Prowl sets on eBay, all for over $100. That's absolute insanity.

How is Hasbro mishandling this when distribution is up to Target? I don't know where TFSource got theirs from, but I doubt it was Hasbro directly, more likely from an overseas source like most exclusives that end up on these sites.

Retailers effectively blackmailing hasbro by making continued retail shelf presence partially contingent on having access to exclusives that force consumers/collectors to visit their store if they want them, in the hopes that while there they'll get the rest of what they want from standard retail instead of visiting their competitors is the retailers' fault.

They probably only mean TFs but when I first heard the explanation the term used was product. It originally started with GI Joe, as did the wave concept.

WHY

For the record there are also retailer-exclusive editions of Monopoly, plus Monopoly is a bigger brand for Hasbro than Transformers, but that's all an aside.
Wasn't Thrust a mainline Earthrise release and not Generations Selects? I mean, there's a whole wave of GS exclusive to Amazon, so it still applies, just not sure why this rant landed here.

Yes, Thrust was just a regular Earthrise figure that happened to be exclusive to Target like Skywarp and Thundercracker, not a Selects.AcademyofDrX wrote:Wasn't Thrust a mainline Earthrise release and not Generations Selects? ...what does thi-are you talking about the Galactic Odyssey sets? Do people actually think the Galactic Odyssey sets are Selects, is that why the last page and a half or so before Transmutate showed up was completely off-topic? They're also just Earthrise store exclusives, just with their own subline name like the Target exclusives being labeled Cybertronian Villains.AcademyofDrX wrote:Wasn't Thrust a mainline Earthrise release and not Generations Selects? Plus, the leaked Selects list we have that's been accurate so far has two figures on it (Road Rage & toy colors Galvatron) who's original mold counterparts have yet to be revealed, so those two at least are off the table until Hasbro gets around to revealing what would have been their Toy Fair reveals.

I'm honestly surprised to hear that comment from you Overcracker, you're a smart guy.
I'd assume you knew the basic formula for retail costs, which in this case can easily justify double the MSRP. By definition, the MSRP for any store exclusive is only avaiable at the exclusive retailer because they are the only retailer who gets the Hasbro cost (which is about $15 per figure for voyagers now). Expecting anywhere near that from any other retailer makes no sense.
Retail markup is usually 100%. So if you are not getting the product from Hasbro and can only get it at the $30 cost per item, then yeah $60 makes sense.
TFSource and target will have the same % markup from their cost in the end.

No. You can justify it any way you want. $60 for a single seeker, when you can still find Thundercracker & Skywarp for much less than that is just ridiculous.
Heck, you can get Thrust for $45 on eBay right now + $4.85 shipping in the U.S.
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?siteid=0&pub=5574891718&campid=5336631220&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FTransformers-W%20...%20Sw8Dxf9jLe%3C%2Fa%3E%3F
$60 is just TFsource jacking of the price because they can. You still have to add shipping to that.
I'll wait around and see if I can get it cheaper. I got TC and SW for $30 from a local department down here store with free shipping. So no, there's no way I'm paying $60 + international shipping for Thrust alone.
Point is Moot now though, since its out of stock already.

Sure you can find one cheaper on eBay, but that seller on eBay doesn't have to support a business in the same way that TF Source does, and very likely won't be giving you the same level of customer service if there is an issue. The lower price on eBay comes with a bit more uncertainty on the seller.

Yes and No? I'm not sure on how TF Source got Thrust. In the case of TF Source and the walgreens exclusives, I'm pretty sure they might get theirs either from RobotKingdom or somewhere in SE Asia as they are always available for the marked up price at TF Source long before they hit Walgreens in the US. They also usually sold out before the items hit the US as well. So in this case, TF Source isn't competing for US stock, but they are possibly depleting stock from elsewhere.

Oh yeah, I forgot they're not GS even though the packaging outside is GS-style plain cardboard. Technically I don't think they're Earthrise either, as all of the marketing has described them as part of the "War for Cybertron Trilogy," which included the Netflix line and the Quintesson Pit in particular. This is all debatable, the Wiki puts the Centurion Drone pack there even though it has an Earthrise number, but the GO sets under Earthrise even though they don't. I'll concede that they're not Selects any way you slice it.
I get why there are different threads for different topics but I'm not sure that enforcing these marketing divisions is particularly useful. None of this complaining is about a product line, but the phenomenon of retailer exclusives which exist across lines, so what're ya gonna do.

My Pulse Premium membership runs out this month, so I wouldn't mind getting free shipping 1 more time before it does. No way I'm paying for a membership since Selects is just about the only thing I order from Pulse anymore. It was a nice 2 year run of having the free Pulse Premium just for making an initial purchase back in 2019, but in no way worth it for $50 a year.
Especially since you can just add an item to get free shipping then cancel the item moments after making the order. I try not to do that too often, but if the workaround exists, I'm gonna use it. Added Snaptrap to order Deep Cover last week, then yesterday I ordered Snaptrap, Deep Cover, and Transmutate then canceled the previous order. I got a couple of months to decide if I truly want Snaptrap or not. I wish at least one of the other two Seacons would come into stock again so I can sort of complete King Poseidon without paying extra.

I count them as Earthrise because the instructions and the inside of the box for each set labels them as Earthrise despite the lack of numbering (at least according to Amazon's stock photos, the only one of those sets I want is the one that isn't out yet so I don't have any of them on-hand to confirm), and the Wiki counts them as well. I agree that complaining about the thread being off-topic is basically arguing semantics though, that combined with genuine confusion at what was happening was why I didn't comment on any of it until I came to make an on-topic post about the latest reveal.AcademyofDrX wrote:Oh yeah, I forgot they're not GS even though the packaging outside is GS-style plain cardboard. I'd say it is a pretty good chance, especially if the leaks that indicated potentially more SG to come are true. There really aren't that many potential other uses of the mold, so SG would seem a pretty sure bet. The only other bot that readily comes to mind is Clocker because of the car mode, but I can't see them doing a $30 verison of Clocker.

We know some of the rumors. Also some of the Repaints will apparently be exclusive to specific retailors, and not necessarily selects.
In any case, I think the doors are pretty wide open, heck I can still think of LOTS of CW repaints/retools that could be released via Selects...but that's just me dreaming. It just depends on what Hasbro decides.
