Upcoming Transformers Collaborative Projects Found with One Possibly Hinting at Ninja Turtles

Posted by william-james88 Jan 14, 2024 at 11:31pm CST 116,810 views
JTPRime17 found some new collaborative project listings. These are the crossovers the Transformers team does like with the films Frankenstein and Top Gun. We got three listings:

TRA GEN COLLAB PROJECT KNIGHT
Product Number: F9653

TRA GEN COLLAB PROJECT RENNAISSANCE
Product Number: F9656

TRA GEN COLLAB PROJECT TAILS
Product Number: G0050

Unlike with codenames in movie lines, the code names for collaborative projects are hints at the projects themselves. KNIGHT could be hinting at K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider, which Hasbro already previously tried doing while Renaissance points towards Ninja Turtles (which have a history of transforming products in their own toylines). Tails doesn't have as direct a hint, it could be anything from Tailspin to Sonic. As we have seen in the past, these collaborative projects could be anything and licenses are acquired purely for the project so another company having toy rights doesn't disqualify a project from happening necessarily. Nothing is confirmed beyond the code names and the fact that these toys are in the works, everything beyond that is speculation on our behalf.

Let us know what you think these may be.

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

Would LOVE it if code name Knight was finally an official transformer Batmobile

Agreed. Was the only Batmobile with a proper 'bot mode in The Brave and The Bold toyline?

KITT and the TMNT Party Wagon / Turtle Van would be definite buys for me. For Tails, it has a different ID number from a lot of the other crossovers which start with F so this might be something a little different. Looking closer the Japanese crossovers (like Lunar Cruiser Prime and the Canon cameras) start with G so this might be a Japanese one. As an anime fan when I think tails I think foxes and my mind actually went directly to a Naruto bot that turns into a 9-tailed fox. That G code makes me wonder if I was right...

Could still be Sonic related, though.

TMNT and the Batmobile are must haves for me. Especially if it were the Burton Batmobile. Even though all the licensing arguments against it sound convincing. KITT would be fine by me, though.

I'm long out of my Naruto phase. But anything and everything with a tail is fair game. I heard someone speculate about the wolfman, which would track. Someone else who wants the same things as me speculated on the Thundertank, also would track.

Hasbro and Mattel are still sharing IPs, right? Maybe I'll get another dream crossover and get Beast Wars Battle Cat (has a tail). The Tigatron mold is still right there to use. And they're doing a TMNT crossover so maybe they have an appetite for crossovers right now.

Though I know it is the least likely option, I would love a Tumbler as a crossover. KITT would also be fantastic, though I would also like a KARR from the newer series, always have.

Hmm, I don't get a lot of these, but I'll admit, a Ninja Turtles Party Wagon would get me VERY interested.

KITT or Batmobile, I am there, but Hasbro has the Marvel toyline, not DC, so I wouldn't get my hopes up TOO high for that one.

C'mon K/I.T.T. I would totally be in for K.I.T.T.

Though I wonder who they could use as a basis?
Ectotron used Combiner Wars Onslaught.
Gigawatt used Sideswipe.

The Stranger Things van got a practically new mold.

The Datsun mold may work. I certainly hope they don't use the Tracks mold. It's pretty bad.

Maybe the Sunstreaker / Wheeljack mold would work better.

Or an entirely new mold is not out of the question. Wonder If they'll incorporate a Super Pursuit mode.

Here's another alternative. We've gotten two Universal Movies monsters...Dracula and Frankenstein. Are we potentially getting Lon Cheney, Jr.'s most famous role?

Well if it's a deluxe my immediate thought is a retooled ER Runabout. Same color, same base car model. Just need some details. Doesn't even need a new head, but would be nice.

Runabout would make a decent mold. They'd still need to remold the front. It no doubt would have to be a licensed Pontiac Firebird with the show mods done to it.

Keep in mind that the Draculus and Frankentron were licensed by Universal and their Wolf Man doesn't have a tail. ;)

Maybe, and I would buy that, but I can't picture Mattel sharing MOTU with them for anything other than Monopoly like they did Barbie. Not with their biggest boys toys competitor.

Has ANYTHING come out of that partnership other than a few games? Wasn't the entire point how surprising it was?

If Hasbro's doing nothing but a Monopoly game I gotta say it's the most wasted potential I've ever seen.

On wolfman not having a tail:
Bear in mind Maverick was project bird and Code Red was Waffles. These names don't have to be that literal.

Waffles is pretty literal. They were prominant in the show while a tail isn’t prominent in the Wolfman since he doesn’t have one.

I wouldn't have guessed the pizza truck from Stager Things from a name like waffles. I wouldn't count that as one of their more literal names. Project Bat or Trooper, sure. Waffles, not really.

TBH, though, I kinda think "thinks with tails" is barking up the wrong tree. I mean, really, no matter what we're talking about they only have ONE tail. Unless the Naruto or Gidorah guessers are right.

Tales from the Crypt?

I don't suppose it could relate to some other Hasbro brand, somehow. It'd be wild if they actually did a Power Rangers crossover (multiple animals = multiple tails).

At this point the collab series has some pretty solid subthemes emerging.

Universal Monsters is an explicit subtheme. A wolfman and a gillman from TR Wolfwire and Skullsmasher still seem obvious, though who knows what they might actually do.

G.I.Joe is obviously an explicit theme, with 3 releases and a fourth inbound.

Jurassic Park has had two releases despite rocky sales on the first, which makes me feel like they were/are planning more. I kind of have a feeling they'd planned to move onto Jurassic World and retool the unrevealed Core Class Dinobot as Blue.

Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Top Gun, and Stranger Things all take place roughly at the same time as the G1 toyline was hitting shelves. To me they form a theme, despite not being overtly related.

KITT fits the implicit 80s theme well, but Burton Batman and Toon Turtles are pushing that line, but are strong maybes.

As much as I want a transforming Seaduck, Tailspin wouldn't slot into any of those themes. Neither would an Assassin's Creed II inspired Davinci Transformer, despite how awesome that would be.

Tails...

Seems really unlikely, but a Jurassic Park II set with the Mercedes and a Stegosaurus? The scene with them swinging around their tails was pretty great.

Edit: Okay, this is a long shot but...

"TAILS" = Jaws.

Jaws was 1975, instead of 1985, but had multiple sequels in the eighties. It's also a monster movie, made by Universal and Spielberg, so it hews close to lots of other collabs that have been released. The shark itself would be a great Decepticon, and the Orca is the logical Autobot counterpart to it. (Or a dolphin if you go the Jaws 3D route.)

90s X-men and Jurassic Park figures are another generational thing and we had a "modern" Ghostbusters repaint. Since repaints/retools and revisits are on the table maybe they're thinking jet tails and are going with another Top Gun figure (technically they've done two, but I don't count the second one as a new release), maybe repaint Maverick for Goose. Even then, the choice of plural tails seems deliberate.

Going back to the idea of it being something from Japan, "twin tails" (double ponytails) are very popular there. Maybe it's another stab at a transforming Miku Hatsune. I mean she's already been a train pilot (from Takara Tomy), a custom car and a toy horse.
