I hate to say this...while I am really excited for the story, Im even less enthused about the art than I was before....

I really like Don's take on a mix of G1, Movie, and his own thing for the designs for the most part. I just am not a fan of how he is drawing the faces. Does anyone know if he has drawn a Fembot using the new style? If so...do they look like Joan Rivers?

I'm hoping this style gets translated into an animated series, in the vein of GI Joe Resolute.

I haven't even seen the more recent TF comics (just bought Max Dinos), and I gotta say I am not liking this artwork at all. It's a shame, I was really digging the detailed G1 style from E.J. Su, and the classics-inspired looks later on.

The picture of Optimus Prime kind of has a gundam look to it.

If you're referring to Don Figueroa's Optimus Prime art in the article then, yes, he has been looking at Classics Optimus Prime. He co-designed the toy, afterall.

Optimus Prime - Voyager class (with Takio Ejima and Alex Kubalsky the latter of whom designed the transforming smokestack gun, which was not a part of Don's design)

I'm totally digging this art style. These are ROBOTS. There's heavy "manga" influence here, there's G1 faithfulness, I even detect a hint of TransTech... There's some serious intuition and depth of thought in these designs going on.

Does anyone remember Don's Macromasters? I am overjoyed to see how Don's artwork has evolved over the years. I'm so happy for him and proud that his love for this has actually gotten him into the Industry(much like our own Seibertron). People can sit here and Hate all day, and simply have no appreciation for the amount of WORK that goes into putting out something like this for us to enjoy. If everything looked the same all the time, I'm sure everyone would complain about that too.

Let's just be glad that they still try to please us fans even though all we do is complain, complain, complain. Let's be glad that Transformers is significant enough to get featured in USA Today. Let's also be glad that we're getting a new ONGOING series. I, for one, can't wait to see what the Decepticons look like in this art style.

B-)

:BOT: Yep, I'm a huge fan of Don's work and have enjoyed the evolution of his style. Now he's drawing them as if they were real. That's similar to the movie design approach but I suppose robots wouldn't have faces found in G1. :CON:

I wouldn't confuse different tastes and criticism for hating or even further implicating that dislike for style involves lacking appreciation for work and effort.

Unconditional praise is no better than uncritical hating.
