Differences Between Earthrise and Legacy Evolution Dirge

Posted by ScottyP Jul 10, 2023 at 9:42am CDT 52,029 views
Most of the Generations re-packs going all the way back to Siege and Earthrise Astrotrain have been identical to their previous releases, but the recent wide release of Legacy Evolution's Voyager Class Dirge figure doesn't entirely continue this trend. While the overall deco is unchanged, there are two small differences for collectors to be aware of.

The most notable difference is found with the wings, though it may be noted that a quick internet search shows there was some awareness of this change already. The Earthrise release, seen below on the left, features painted plastic wings whereas the Legacy Evolution release, on the right, is molded as tan plastic. This creates a matte versus gloss finish difference that immediately jumps out when putting the two toys side-by-side.

The "knee" paint is also noticeably different in the newer release. Earthrise Dirge features very purple knees (or perhaps kneepads if you prefer), as seen on the left once again in the image below. Meanwhile, the Legacy Evolution version sports a much redder shade of paint, landing somewhere between purple and lilac.

And those two small changes are really it, at least as far as this Transformers toy collector can tell. For most collectors these are not practical differences and add no reason to keep two extremely similar Dirge toys on the shelf, but it's always fun to see some variation when the same toy gets released years after its first outing.

This won't remove any value of the original.
So for the hardcore collector, that's a good thing.

I know how Tarn could get a second Legacy figure from a different mold.

Make Glitch from the Studio Series Gamer Edition Bumblebee/Cliffjumper mold.

Pulse just charged for (the) Nemesis. Hopefully I'll have it in-hand in just a few days.

On the contrary, this sucks for hardcore collectors because now we have to buy a second Dirge to get all of the mold variations...

Yeah I already got the tracking email, says Wednesday. Neato!

I wonder if Amazon will bump up their release date then, it currently says next week.

While I was re-arranging my Transformer shelves today I started thinking about the upcoming Shadow Striker and her (probable if not very, very likely) repaint/retool into Side Burn. If Prowl and X-Brawn get new toys, if they're not original moulds (obviously it would be better if they were, but if that's not an option), which existing figures would work as retools?
I remember there was a leaked product listing a while ago for "ROBO WILD RIDE" that some speculated was X-Brawn because "Wild Ride" is his Japanese name, but until we know more I still suspect that listing is just a Wildrider repaint, maybe his G2 colours for the Toxitron Collection.

While Prowl could potentially be a Sunstreaker or Sideswipe retool, I just don't see how any other figure can be used for X-Brawn.

That big massive, Mercedes SUV front end for a forearm can't be done from an existing mold.

I'd expect all 3 to be new molds, since they have some repaints pretty much built in. I'm sure the Shadow Striker pre-tool was just them tying to avoid the Super side Burn repaint in Hot Rod red and flames.

But for the other 2, the repaints are easy and right there.

There are of course also, these 2 color schemes for them, that would work nicely in their Walmart G2 line.

Well, Clampdown is already a retool of Sideswipe. So a retool of a retool I guess.

It was "ROBO WLD RDR", indicating "Rider" rather than "Ride".

Got Blitzwing from Amazon's little sale (not sure if it counts as Prime day since it wasn't locked behind Prime). Gotta say, $37 USD for him is a solid price. I'm enjoying him, and he definitely has some fun bits, but my copy has some overly tight joints in places, and overall he feels a little lacking for the full $55.

That said, the second they announce a Gen Selects Overcharge, I'm grabbing that

I am truly surprised that that isn't even rumored yet.

Have some Axlegrease

Thanks to the wonderful Mark Maher AKA Markclonus on Instagram, we now have new designer notes for the recently revealed Legacy Evolution Voyager Class Bludgeon. Bludgeon is a new head and weapon retool of Tarn, with a wicked new headsculpt. In the notes, we learn about the design of that head, and the desire to match Alex Milne's IDW2019 Bludgeon design, as seen in the 2021 Annual.

Check out the notes and images below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

Ah yes, Legacy Evolution Voyager Bludgeon, what a fierce decepticon to add to your collection. I don’t think I’ve ever actually encountered anyone that doesn’t have some kind of love for this character.

I’m honored to have had the pleasure of trying to live up to Alex Milne’s design featured in the IDW comic series. As you may already know this is a redeco of Tarn, but he comes with a new head, new sword, and a new delicious colorway!

Huge shout out to Yuya san over at Takara, his design aesthetic is just amazing!

I had to take some time to draw up a wicked head sculpt for this maniac, slide on through the pics for some other treats and deets. He has a sick weapon load out and the sword sculpt details look pretty vicious. I’m not sure if some people noticed on Tarn but the front tank guns are not only blast effect compatible, they are perfectly sized to be used as a set of hit sticks. With this great range of articulation, you can really get wild with the posing.

Had alot of fun with this mold as you can see, somtimes figures just seem like they have a mind of their own as you play with them. Happy Transformers Tuesday yall!

The only thing I wish they did was retool the chest. The paint apps help, but I still see Tarn's chest plate. It's not a dealbreaker, just a wish.

I agree, he really only needed the new chest to truly stand apart

That Bludgeon is 100% pure disappointment.
Seriously.

Now, if only Super 7 would release their damn figures already! :-(
