Are you hoping that Santa will bring you something good this year? Well, E-Hobby hasn’t forgotten about you!

The New Year’s Special release is back and it will be Encore Ironhide (Protect Black ver.). This New Year’s Special release is an E-Hobby Exclusive, which features the Ironhide mold in his Diaclone original colors.

The toy will be part of the Encore series and will include a small story that explains the purpose of the black version (in Japanese). Part of the story explains that the black version is super strong alloy called “Torisairsium”.

You can learn more about the product here. This figure will be released in April 2008.

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

An earlier news item says that the Encore Ratchet and Ironhide will get new heads. This black Encore doesn't seem to have a new head.

Correction: Not heads but faces. Sorry.

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. Nothing was mentioned on the E-Hobby site about a new head (at this time).

And as always with e-Hobby there's a backstory behind the origin of the figure. In this case it's based on the Diaclone version of Ironhide, who was black. Also, the same version was released under the Kronoform line in the US before he became a TF. ;)

So for all you "Ironhide is not black!" people:

:HEADHURTS: :P

So, here's a stupid question but I never had Ratchet/Ironhide back in the day but am planning on buying the Encores. Do the robots come off of the trailer/base parts or do they just kind of stand up on them? Like, they do have independant legs/feet, right?

The bot separates from the base.

I'm kind of excited to order this one. The diaclone colors are pretty cool.

Word. I've never seen one in real life, and it's hard to tell from that picture if the feet are attached or not. Like I said, I know it was a stupid question, but thanks.

Ah. Diaclone colors. Nice. This is one exclusive I can actually give a "thumbs up" to.

It's actually kinda neat seeing the Autobot logo on that version. Sweet!

This one is cool. Of course I already own one from 1983, but it's a little beat up. This is what Ironhide always looked like to me. Great job. Wonder how much it will cost to get one?

I've needed an Ironhide ever since my Dad stole mine from me in 1986. This black version looks hot. How much is it going to cost though?

Awesome! I love the 80's feel of that yellow stripe on the black van, sadly he's too pricy for me - I can get both ratchet & Ironhide for the price of this guy.

At $70 for the BBTS preorder...that's strangely expensive.

Overcast was only 45 or 50, Twincast, who was significantly bigger was 70, why is Ironhide so much?

Not really complaining, it's just odd.
